3 claims. (cured-var f This invention rrelat s to Venetian blind slats. Anbbje'ct 'of invention is to 'provide as a new article of manufacture a` Venetian blind slat which is so.'constructed'andarraiiged that it can be produced from extruded plastic material. o
i Another object of this inventionis to .provide a plastic"slat'fofvenetianib d'swhicn is formed -oli'itl'ie lengthwise "eg's'theofl'with reinforcing ds A further object of this invention is to provide a plastic slat for Venetian blinds which is formed with tubular beads along the lengthwise edges thereof within which reinforcing wires or rods are mounted.
A further object of this invention is to provide a plastic slat for Venetian blinds which is so constructed and arranged that it can be readily removed without withdrawing the ropes or cords.
A further object of this invention is to provide a plastic slat of this kind having slots opening through one edge thereof which are normally closed by combined slot closing and edge reinforcing wires which span the ends of the slots and can be pulled endwise so as to open the slots and permit removal of any one or more of the slats.
To the foregoing objects, and others which may hereinafter more fully appear, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more speciically referred to and illustrated inr the accompanying drawings, but it is to be understood that changes, variations, and modications may be resorted to which fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a plan view, partly broken away, of a Venetian blind slat constructed according to an embodiment of this invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 3-3 0f Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 3 but showing the closure wires or pins between slots in open position.
In referring to the drawing, the numeral I designates generally an elongated transversely arcuate body which may be formed out of plastic or other suitable composition material and may be formed by the extrusion process. The body I is formed along the opposite lengthwise edges thereof with tubular beads II and I2. On one edge of the body I0 and preferably the edge 55 iai/ag, a@ sa@ 'lgiltiiaen- .a were 01 mail@ .is
ldisposed within the tubular bead il. VThe -wire or` rod i3 coacts the beadII iii-reinforcing thebody i@ against lengthwise bending. The
ifi which openthrough "theedge of thek body It 'having thebead .I2`. Theslots Meatendthrough the bead f2' so thatA whehthefouter endshof the s`lo'ts Iare openthe slatscan be moved laterally from the ropes or cords which are provided for raising and lowering the blinds. The bead I2 has mounted therein between the two slots I4 a reinforcing wire or rod I5 which terminates at the opposite ends thereof a point short of the adjacent edges of the two slots I4 as shown in Figure 3.
A movable wire or pin I6 is disposed in the outer portion I2a of the bead I2 being formed with a beveled inner end Il. Wire or pin I6 is adapted to normally extend across the outer end of the slot Id so as to close this slot and the inner end cf the pin or wireIG will extend into the keeper I 8 which is formed within the bore of the bead I2 at the opposite ends of the intermediate reinforcing wire or rod I5.
With a slat as hereinbefore described, any one or more of the slats of a Venetian blind can be removed or replaced without taking the entire blind structure apart, and particularly without removing the suspension and elevating cords. It will be understood that these slats will be associated with the conventional tapes having the slat supporting ladders associated therewith and when it is desired to remove a slat the locking pins or wires I6 at each end of the slat are pulled endwise until the inner ends thereof clear the slots I4. The slats can then be tilted to disengage the saine from the suspension cords and the slats then pulled endwise from between the tapes.
These slats being formed of plastic or other composition material can be colored as may be desired with the color impregnated in the composition or plastic material. forcing wires in the beads at the opposite lengthwise edges of the slots the composition slats can be formed relatively thin and will retain their straight form so that they will not bend or buckle. The reinforcing wires I 3, I5 and I are preferably formed out of tempered steel which will hold the slats against buckling or undue bending under heat and other conditions.
What is claimed is:
1. A Venetian blind slat comprising an clon,
By having the reiny gated member, a tubular bead on each lengthwise edge of said member, said member being formed with at least two transversely disposed slots opening through one of said edge beads thereof, a reinforcing wire extending throughV the other of said beads from end to end thereof, a second reinforcing wire xedly disposed in said one bead between said slots and terminating at the opposite ends thereof inwardly of said slots, and a pair of movable reinforcing wires slidably disposed in the portions of said one bead disposed outwardly of said slots and normally extending across the open ends of said slots to thereby close said slots.
2. A Venetian blind slat comprising an elongated member formed of plastic material, a tubular bead on each lengthwise edge of said member, said member being formed with at least two transversely disposed slots opening through one of said edge beads thereof, a reinforcing wire extending through the other of said beads from end to end thereof, a second reinforcing wire Xedly disposed in the portion of said one edge bead between said slots and having the opposite ends thereof terminating inwardly of said slots, and a pair of movable reinforcing wires slidable in the portions of said one edge bead disposed outwardly of said slats and normally extending across the open ends of said slots into said bead portion therebetween to thereby close said slots.
3. A Venetian blind slat comprising an elongated member having a hollow tubular bead formed along each of the lengthwise edges thereof, a pair of transversely disposed slots formed in said member and opening through one of said beads, a reinforcing wire fixed within the portion of said one bead between said slots and having the opposite ends thereof terminating inwardly of said slots whereby said bead portion between said opposite ends and said slots provides a pair of sockets, and a pair of movable reinforcing wires slidably disposed in said one bead outwardly of said slots and adapted to extend across the open ends of said slots and engage in said sockets to thereby obstruct said slots, the outer ends of said movable wires extending beyond the opposite ends of said member to provide means for slid- Ving said movable wires outwardly to remove the obstruction from said slots.
