1 Claim.

This invention relates to improvements in surgical apparatus and is directed more particularly to improvements in bathing apparatus.

The principal object of the invention is the provision of a bathing apparatus which is constructed and arranged in a novel manner to facilitate bathing a portion of a patient.

For instance, the injured limb of a patient may be disposed over the apparatus so that liquid may be flowed onto the limb such as in a case where it is desired and necessary to wash wounds in the limb.

With the foregoing and various other novel features and advantages and other objects of my invention as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more particularly pointed out in the claim hereunto annexed and more fully described and referred to in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:

Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of a bathing apparatus embodying the novel features of the invention;

Figs. and 3 are end and plan views respectively of the apparatus shown in Fig. 1; and

Fig. 4 is an elevational sectional view on the line 4- of Fig. 1.

Referring now to the drawings more in detail, the invention will be fully described.

A receptacle 2 is provided which has side and end walls l and 6 which extend upwardly from a bottom wall 8.

The receptacle may be made from various materials such as stainless steel or non-corrosive material and the side and end walls are preferably provided with outwardly extending flanges 5 and J.

In one of the wall members there is a circular depression In as in the end wall 6 which has an outwardly extending flange 12.

A support for the receptacle may include uprights M which are connected by longitudinal members I6 and transverse members 18 and the receptacle may rest on and be supported by the uppermost transverse members 18.

For convenience in transporting the supporting structure and receptacle, *casters 20 are provided on the lower ends of the uprights [4.

A drain conduit 22 extends from the bottom wall of the receptacle and, in the form of the invention shown, is centrally thereof although it may be disposed otherwise as may be desired.

A shelf 24 extends between the longitudinal members l6 and supports a waste receptacle 26.

A grid 30 is provided which has legs 32 for supporting the grid above the bottom wall of the receptacle 2. This grid is provided with a plurality of openings 34 therethrough which may be of any form desired.

In use the apparatus is disposed adjacent a suitable support for the patient and the patients limb or the like is extended over and into the receptacle 2. The depression ID in the wall of the receptacle facilitates the limb lying on the grid. Liquid may then be applied to the limb in any desired manner for washing wounds or other purposes and it drains through the grid and downwardly in a conduit 22.

The apparatus makes it possible to employ a large amount of washing or cleansing liquid which is desirable in connection with serious wounds and the like and the patient and his clothing are protected against the liquid, so that all together the washing or bathing function may be accomplished in a more speedy and eflicient manner than has been possible heretofore.

The receptacle may be made of any desired dimensions and there may be a depression to receive a limb or the like in one or more of the walls and it may be of any desired depth so that it is not desired to be limited to any particular location of the depression.

The invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the essential characteristics thereof. Hence, the present embodiments are therefore to be considered in all respects merely as being illustrative and not as being restrictive, the scope of the invention being indicated by the appended claim rather than by the foregoing description. and all modifications and variations as fall within the meaning and purview and range of equivalency of the appended claim are therefore intended to be embraced therein.

What it is desired to lclaim and secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:

Transportable bathing apparatus comprising in combination, an upper receptacle having a horizontal bottom wall and adjacent and opposite end and side walls extending substantially upwardly vertically therefrom providing an open u per side, a horizontal perforated supporting plate spaced above and supported by said bottom wall, one of said end walls provided with a concave semi-circular notch therein and an outwardly extending horizontal flange therearound whereby the limb of person may extend hori- 3 zontally through the notch and be supported by said flange and supporting plate, a wheeled supporting carriage on which said upper receptacle is supported, said bottom Wall having a drain outlet, and a lower receptacle below said upper receptacle and drain outlet supported. by said supporting carriage.
