Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH E. BANISTEE, OE TITUSVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
STAM-VALVE.
SPECIFICATION forming,` part of Letters Patent No. 247,985, dated October 4, 1881.
Application tiled February 16, 1881.
following is a specic'ation.
. main valve.
rods C C, which valve-rods are moved by the vmain valve M is Operated.
My invention relates to improvements in the arrangement of valves and ports iu steampumps, for removing the friction of a portablev or movable valve-seat, and to secure the movements Of the main and plunger valve.
Figure l represents a longitudinal sectional view of my improvements, showing the valveseats and ports. Fig. 2 represents a top view of the valve-seats and ports. Fig. 3 represents a transverse sectional view of the same. Fig. 4 represents a detail 'perspective view of the Fig. 5 represent-is the small movable valve G, with a projection on its upper side, in which is a notch, H. In this notch a projection, I, on the main valve M fits. (See Fig.
This small valve G is moved by the valvelevers B B. Thelevers B B are moved or operated by the tappet-rods D D, which are moved by the piston-head X in its forward andback- `Ward stroke.
F F, Fig. 1, represent the auxiliary pistons that operate the main valve M. The center part, connecting the auxiliary piston at K, is reduced in size to t into a'conoave slot in the top of the main valve M. By this means the The auxiliary pistons are Operated by the steam let on by the small valve G through the ports W W.
(Model.)
4 and 6, Fig. l, show the main steam-ports, and V5 the exhaustport.
P shows the seat ofthe small valve G, which admits the steam to auxiliary pistons F F through the ports l and 3. (See Fig. 2.) W W are steamWays-or continuations of these ports.
2 is the exhaust-port to the small valve G. In case the auxiliary pistons F F should stick, from rust or other cause, then they would be started by the movement of the small valve G,
These ports are also 'shown in the valve-seat N, Fig. 2.
which, by means of the notch H and the `lug or projection I on the main 'valve M, would operate the auxiliary piston F F. The notch H is the width ot' the steam-port 4 or 6 wider than the lug I. This gives the main valve M the full throw of the ports, unless the auxiliary pistons F F stick, when it would be started by the notch on the valve G coming in contact With theprojection Orlug I on the main valve M.
I claim- 1. Valve M, having projection I, in combination with valve G, having recess H, and operatingiu the manner substantially as set forth.
2. In combination with valve M, having projection I, and valve G,having recess H, Of piston X, tappet-rods D D, levers B B, and pistons F F, with their necessary steam passages and ports, all arranged substantially as set forth.
JOSEPH F. BANISTEB.
