NOSE PIECE POE EYEGLASSES.
No. 247,681. Patented Sept. 27,1881.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY M. PAINE, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO OSBORN, OF SAME PLACE.
BENNET NOSE-Pl ECE FOR EYEGLASSES.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 247,681, dated September 27, 1881 Application filed March 30, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY M. PAINE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Eyeglasses, of which the following is a specification. 1
The object of my invention is to substitute an elastic nose-clamp for the usual rigid device, and thus distribute the pressure over a larger portion of the nose than has hitherto been accomplished.
The nature of my invention consists in constructing the noseclam p of round wire, wound spirally, or flattened wire, wound helically, as shown at a a in the accompanying drawing, making part of this specification.
To insure pliancy of the clamps a at their coils should be well opened before being secured to the frame of the eyeglass.
I have not mentioned any method of attaching the spring-clamps to the frame, as different makers will devise their own modes; but I have found in practice that a very neat attaohment can be made by brazing, using a solder that flows at acomparatively low temperature.
I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The spiral clamps a a, in combination with the frame of the eye-piece, substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
HENRY M. PAINE.
