This invention relates to furniture and more particularly to card game tables.
It is an object of this invention to provide a new and improved card game table that will avoid one or more of the disadvantages and limitations of the prior art.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved card game table that will enable the players to play a card game which will assure them of a more positive compliance with the requirements of the game, and which will prevent cards slipping from the table and the player to the floor in an accidental or mistaken manner that might be undesirable.
Other objects of this invention will become apparent as the invention is more fully set forth.
For a better understanding of the invention, together with the other and further objects thereof, reference is had to the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, while its scope will be pointed out in the appended drawings.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a card game table embodying this invention; and
Figure 2 is side elevation of the table shown in Figure 1.
Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the drawings.
In the drawing a table 18 is provided with a top H and with conventional legs l2, suitably spaced apart and braced to Withstand the stresses of usage by means of cross members l3 suitably joined thereto, and positioned appropriately for the purpose.
The table top H consists of a flat piece of circular form, supported on an octagonal frame i5 joined at the corners l6, which are suitably mitered. This frame l5 rests on a false table top I! that reinforces the table structure, and provides shelves divided into compartments It by the vertical side partitions it. These partitions are situated at the various corners is of the frame 15, and extend under the top I i. The legs [2 are anchored to the table top H by cross bracing 25. A peripheral moulding 2B, of sufficient height to prevent cards being played with from sliding off the false table top H is peripherally secured all around this table top. The table top and legs may be separated for removal or storage by removal of bolts M.
The table is employed for playing cards by placing a player at each compartment space l8, or as many as may be needed for the number of players available and the game to be played. Each player keeps his hands on the false table top at his compartment and manipulates his cards within it. The side partitions prevent unauthorized visual inspection of his cards by another player at either side. The overhanging portion of the table top H, enables him to hold his cards up for his own observation, while concealed from the gaze of others, above or from the sides. He is also enabled to manipulate or stack his cards to any legal extent, and in a more convenient and protective manner, than is possible in the conventional way. The table affords every desirable convenience to the player while eliminating undesirable features that could occur in the customary manner of playing. The polygonal positions of the compartments allow the players to examine their cards and play them in a separate and distinct field of operation, conducive to the best manner of playing cards.
While but one general form of the invention is shown in the drawings and described in the specifications it isnot desired to limit this application for patent to this particular form or in any other way otherwise than limited by the scope thereof, as it is appreciated that other forms could be made that would use the same principles and come within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the claimed is:
A card table comprising a circular top, an octagonal frame joined to and depending from said top, an annular ring-shaped top of larger external diameter than said first mentioned circular top, said ring-shaped top being joined to said frame along the line of its internal diameter and being on a lower plane than that of said circular top, a series of vertical partitions extending radially and upwardly between said ring-shaped top and said circular top and forming compartments therebetween, said partitions being located at the meeting points of two adjacent sides of said octagonal frame, a peripheral molding of substantial height secured along the outer periphery of said ring-shaped top, leg elements for supporting said table connected to said circular top and quickly detachable, cross-members for maintaining said leg elements in position.
