This instant, invention relates to thermometers and its primary object is the provision of a thermometric device which is especially adapted for use in a laundry for the purpose of assurin the operator of such an establishment that the rinse water used for Woolen goods is of the same temperature as the wash water.
Another object of, the invention is the provision of a thermometer that may be used for the purpose stated without the wash or rinse water touching and injuring the scale and obscuring the reading of the temperature.
With these and other objects in view a preferred embodiment of the invention is hereinafter described and claimed in the appended claim.
The description should be read in connection with the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the preferred embodiment of my invention;
Figure 2 is an enlarged central vertical detail section on line 2--2 of Fig. 1;
Figure 3 is an enlarged transverse, horizontal section on line 33 of Fig. 1.
In the drawing in which like characters of reference designate like or similar parts, numeral 2 denotes a back plate preferably of wood to the front side of which a metallic scale plate 3 is attached. A thermometer tube 4 is held by clasps 6 and fasteners 1 to the scale plate and between two scales 9 formed on the latter. The tube terminates at its lower end in a bulb I I which engages the inwardly depressed bight portion l2 of a yoke l3, serving a means for holding the tube in position and protecting the same.
The yoke has on either leg an outwardly extending apertured flange l which is attached by fastener I! to the scale plate.
The front side of the scale plate and the rear fan of the bulb are sufliciently spaced from one another for the insertion of a strip of copper 20.
While the device described may be used for various purposes only one is mentioned here i. e. its use in assuring a person washing woolens that the rinse water and wash water have the same temperature. Failure to observe this precaution will cause shrinking of the woolen goods. Since the immersion of the instrument is confined only to the copper strip, the water cannot obliterate the scale nor obscure'the reading of the temperature. The yoke prevents the development of undue bending stresses in the portion of the tube adjacent the bulb.
The specific details of the foregoing disclosure of my invention are a mere example of my invention, not a limitation thereof. Changes or modifications may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as defined in the subjoined claim.
What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:
In combination, a back member, a thermometer tube and a bulb at the lower end thereof mounted on said back member, said tube being of some resiliency and having its bulb normally engaging said back member, and a strip of heat conducting material frictionally held between said bulb and back member and projecting beyond one end of said back member.
