Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification and the accompanying drawings to designate corresponding parts.
In carrying out the invention, it will be understood that the improved ventilator may include one or more units which will be placed in any desired opening, for example, in a window opening or in a transom opening over a doorway.
Each unit comprises a substantially rectangular casing generally denoted by the reference numeral I, and having a top 2, a bottom 3, a front or weather side 4, and a rear or inside 5.
In Figure 1, there is illustrated a door frame 6 i in which -'the-;ldoor-s 2'1 J are hinged-at fl, an d an overhead transom F frame 9, in which fraime ea double unit, or two separate -units are positioned an'd 'held'therein in any "desiredmanner.

The aligned vertical guide slots I! and I8 are formed through the sliding closure plate l4, and are adapted to receive the thumb screws l9 and 20, on which the coil springs 2| and 22 are mounted, said screws l9 and 20 being engageable with and supported by the inside wall 5 of the ventilator casing I. By turning down on the thumb screws I9 and 20, the desired resilient tension may be secured for holding the closure plate H! in the desired adjusted position.
The closure plate operating finger 23 is secured to the lower edge of the closure plate [4 and extends forwardly thereof, so that the same may be readily grasped, and the said closure plate l4 raised to open the ventilator, or lowered to close the ventilator.
An elongated closure-operating stick is provided when the ventilator unit is placed too high to reach for manual operation. Said stick comprises a handle 24 and a forked head 25 having outwardly extending parallel finger-engaging arms 26 and 21, which may be placed over the finger 23 to raise and lower the closure plate l4.
Since the louvers II are inclined upwardly, there will be no direct draft produced when the ventilator is opened.
While the preferred form of the instant invention has been illustrated and described, it will be understood that it is not intended to limit the scope of the invention thereto, as many minor changes in details of construction may be re' -j sorted to without departure from the spirit" of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. In combination with a structure having an opening, a, ventilator adapted to be supported in said opening including a casing having an inner and outer side wall, a closed top, bottom and end walls, said side Walls having vertically spaced elongated horizontal openings, each of said openings being provided with an upwardly and inwardly directed vane, vertical guide channels at the ends of said casing on the room side thereof, a closure plate having vertically spaced elongated horizontal apertures formed therethrough slidably supported in said guide channels for controlling the flow of air through said louvers, said closure plate being formed with vertically aligned elongated guide slots, headed supporting members secured to the adjacent inside wall of said casing and extending through said slots, and an inwardly extending closure plate operating tab on the bottom of said closure plate.
In combination with a structure having an opening, a ventilator adapted to be supported in said opening including a casing having closed top, bottom and end walls, vertically spaced elongated horizontal openings in the inner and outer walls of said casing louvers extending upwardly and inwardly from the inner and outer walls adjacent the openings, vertical guide channels at the ends of said casing on the room side thereof, a closure plate having vertically spaced elongated horizontal openings formed therethrough slidably supported in said guide channels for controlling the flow of air through said louvers, headed supporting member secured to the adjacent inside wall of said casing and extending outwardly therefrom, said closure plate being formed with a pair of vertically aligned elongated slots slidably disposed on the members, adjustable resilient tensioning means on said members for resiliently supporting said closure plate in any desired adjusted position, and an inwardly extending closure plate operating tab on the bottom of said closure plate for moving said plate vertically on the members.
3. In combination with a structure having an opening, a ventilator adapted to be supported in said opening and including a casing having a closed top, bottom and end walls, vertically spaced elongated horizontal openings in the inner and outer walls of said casing, vertical guide channels disposed at the ends of said casing on the room side thereof, a closure plate having vertically spaced elongated horizontal apertures formed therethrough slidably supported in said guide channels for controlling the flow of air through said louvers, a pair of adjusting and supporting lugs secured to the inside wall of said casing, resilient tensioning means associated with said lugs, vertically aligned guide slots formed in said closure plate and slid-ably disposed on said supporting lugs, and an inwardly extending operating tab on the bottom of said closure plate for moving said plate vertically on the lugs.
