Patented Apr. 5, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE FISH POLE HOLDER Karl Bernhard Fischer, Sheboygan, Wis.
Application August 25, 1947, Serial No. 770,497
The present invention relates to fishpole holders and it consists in the combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts herein described and claimed.
It is an object of the invention to provide a holder for fishing poles which may be easily mounted upon the bank of a stream or the like and which may be folded into a. compact space when not in use.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of the character set forth in which provision is made for the lateral adjustment of a fishpole without the necessity for changing the position of the apparatus.
Another object of the invention is the provision, in a device of the character set forth, of means for moving a fishpole in a vertical direction when desired without the necessity for moving the entire apparatus.
A further object of the invention is the provision of novel anchoring means for a fishpole holder.
Other and further objects of the invention will become apparent from a reading of the following specification taken in connection with the drawings, in which;
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of an embodiment of the invention,
Figure 2 is a plan view thereof,
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken along line 3-3 of Figure 2,
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken along line 4-4 of Figure 1,
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken along line 55 of Figure 2, and
Figure 6 is a plan view of the device shown in Figures 1 to 5, inclusive, in collapsed condition.
Generally, there is provided a fishpole holder comprising a platform having a leg pivotally mounted adjacent each corner thereof and adapted to be pressed into engagement with the ground but which may be folded into a plane substantially identical with that of the platform when not in use. The rear pair of legs each has attached by means of a chain a ground engaging anchor substantially triangular in shape. Atop the platform there is pivotally mounted a fishpole guide member which is limited in its pivotal movement by a pair of upwardly extending dogs carried at the forward end of the platform. Hingedly connected to the rear of the guide member is a cylindrical barrel for the reception of the stock of a fishpole.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, there is shown therein a fishpole holder 2 Claims. (Cl. 248-42) 2 comprising a platform Ill having a dependant skirt or flange II which extends along both sides and the rear of the platform. Adjacent the forward end of the platform there is pivotally connected to the skirt H, as indicated at l2, a pair of front legs l3 which are limited in their forward movement by a pair of detents 14 formed integrally with the skirt I I.
Adjacent the rear end of the platform 10 there is pivotally connected to the skirt II at either side thereof a pair of rear legs l5, as indicated at IS. The legs l5 are limited in their rearward movement by a pair of detents ll formed integrally with the skirt II. A trough-like guide member I8 is pivotally mounted by means of a bolt I9 adjacent the rear of the platform and is limited in its lateral movement upon the platform by means of a pair of ears 20 formed integrally at either end of a band 2| riveted, as indicated at 22, to the forward end of the platform. A cylindrical barrel 23 is connected to the rear of the guide member l8 by means of a hinge '24. The legs I3 and I5 are pointed at their free ends, as indicated at 25, and are all provided with collars 26 integrally formed thereon for limiting and guiding the depth at which the legs may be thrust into the ground.
The rear legs l5 are each provided with a ground anchor 21 which is substantially triangular in shape and each of which is connected to its respective leg by means of a chain 28 which interconnects the same with a ring 29 carried by said leg.
In operation, it will b apparent that the device may be quickly set up upon the bank of a stream, lake or the like by moving the front legs l3 forwardly and the rear legs l5 rearwardly to the limit of such movement as determined by the detents l4 and I7, respectively, whereupon the same are inserted into the ground until the collars 26 come into contact therewith. This provides a rearwardly sloping platform to act as a base for the guide member l8 into which a fishing pole may be laid and its stock 31! inserted into the cylindrical barrel 23. The fisherman may then laterally adjust the position of the pole by moving the same along with the guide member between the dogs 20 to a selected position. The anchors 21 may then be inserted preferably at right angles to the rear legs 15 to thus prevent any accidental dislodgement of the apparatus. When a strike occurs, the fisherman may then move the rod upwardly and downwardly as well as laterally at his will due to the hinged connection 24 between the cylindrical barrel 23 and the guide member l8. When it is desired to pack the device, it is only necessary to remove the anchors from the ground and fold the forward legs rearwardly and the rear legs forwardly until all lie in the same plane which is immediately subjacent the plane of the platform I 0.
While but one form of the invention has been shown and described herein, it will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art that many minor modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
