To all whom z't may concern:

Be it known that I, REUBEN MOOIIESNEY, a citizen of the United States, residing ai; Philadelphia, in che county or" Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have nvented certain new and usefnl Improvements in Sawed Puzzles; end I do hereby declare the following to be a full, elear, end exaet description of the invention, sueh as will enable others skilled in the art to whieh it appertains to make and use the same, ref'erence being had to the accompanying clrawings, and to the letters or figures of reference marked thereon, whieh forno a part of t-l1is specification.

My invention relates to sawed puzzles composed oi wood or similar materal, end baving a eylindrcal, oval, or sphericzml form.

The invention consiste in making a nnmber ofpeculiarlock-cuts through aeylindrical, oval, or spherieal piece of wood or other suitable material, so that when che out pieces are taken aporia it will be difficult to readjust them in the form tbey had before they were separated.

In the annexed drawings, which fully illustrate my invention, Figure 1 is a top view of a ball or sphere secured in a frame, and showing the first cui: made. Fig. 2 is a vertical seetion of the same after the first cui; has been made. Fig. 3 represents half of the ball sawed in two parts and turned over. Fig. 4 shows two views of a quarter when finished. Fig. 5 shows a top view of one-half of the ball, representing che cuts made through il; whle restin g on its flat side; and Fig. 6 represents a sawed 3 5 piece having an acorn or general oval shape,

in which the first out is made in the same manner as thai; shown in Fig. 1.

(Model) The frame A, in which the piece to be out is placerl, may be composed of wood or other material, and is provided with an opening which o corresponds in shape end size Wth che piace to be out. This frame or its equivalent is necessary for holding the piece while the first; out is made, after which the sawed piece is taken from the frame, laici upon its sawed side, end further outs given to il; of any forno or in any clirection desired. Before being out the sphereal piece of wood or other material may be covered With a map of the world, attaohed in anyconvenientmanner, or the spheri- 5o cal, oval, or cylindrcal pieees may be covered With any appropriate designs.

A puzzle constru'cted in this manner reqnires aeertain degree of skill for its manipulation, and will afford a means of iustruction as well as amusennenb.

I am aware tbat sawed puzzles of a squame or flat form beve been heretofore made, and therefore do not olaim a sawerl puzzle, broadly; but

What I do claim as my invention, end desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A spherical, oval, or eylindrieal puzzle cornposed of pieces sepnrated by lock-cuts, substantially as specified.

In testimony whereof I affix my signanre in presence of two witnesses.
