4 Claims. (01. ii-469) This invention relates to control mechanisms for electric devices and more particularly to mechanical mechanisms for operating an electric device from a remote point.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a mechanical system composed of units which can be disposed upon ceiling wall surfaces in any number to readily provide a control point at any one of several locations removed from the electric device being operated and through which connections with other operating mechanisms may be made upon being led back in its connection with the electrical device.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a simple device containing an electric lamp and means adapted to be connected with the pull chain of the lamp in such manner that the operating devices remote fromthe lamp-Will spring not only serves to position the disc with in the casing but serves to position the control elements and linkages located at positions removed from the lamp.
Within the casing and below the disc is a pulley element over which a chain adapted to operate the lamp is extended. As the discis rotated against the action of the spring, the pull chain is wound upon the pulley element and the lamp is turned on or ofi. Upon release of the operating devices the disc is returned to its normal position and the chain is unwound from the pulley element. The operating devices remote from the lamp comprise a similar arrangement of a casing and a disc therewithin adapted to be operated by rods entering the casing from anyone or more angular positions. This casing with the disc can be located on a ceiling or upon a side wall and still be arranged so as to receive the interconnecting operating rods.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof. reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

Fig. 1 is a plan view looking upon the ceiling of a room employing the lamp device and the mechanical operating mechanism to the present invention.
Fig. 2 is an elevational view looking upon the lamp device and the operating mechanism upon the wallof the room.
Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view of the device and mechanism taken along the line 3-3 of Fig. 2 looking in the direction of the arrows thereof.
Fig. 4 is a cross sectional view, in elevation, taken through the device. and mechanisms as viewed along the line 4-4 of Fig. 3 looking in the dirction of the arrows thereof.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged fragmentary and cross sectional view of the lamp device and the spring operated disc mechanism for operating the lamp.
Fig. 6 is a cross sectionalview looking upon the top of the operating disc of the lamp device, taken along the line 6-45 of Fig. 5 looking in the direc-. tion of the arrows thereof.
Fig. 7 is a cross sectional view of one of there mote operating mechanisms to which the operating rods are connected.
Referring now to the figures, l2 represents a lamp device which is to be operated by the con: trolmechanism of the present invention. This lamp device comprises a large casing I3 having on its bottom It a, socket 15 containing a lamp bulb,
It. Through the socket ii there is extended the usual chain H for effecting the rotation of the switch operating mechanism within the socket. As the chain is pulled out, the lamp is either turned on or off and upon release of the chain the same is returned to the socket by mechanism therewithin. The casing I3 includes a base I! (Fig. 5) by which. attachment of the casing is made with a ceiling ill of a room to be lighted. The electrical connections with the socket l5 may be made through the casing l3 or externally thereof in any well known manner.
7 Depending from the base I8 is a pivot stud 2| on the lower end of which there is journaled or steadied, a large disc 22 having screw eyes 23 thereon located ninety degrees apart. A fiat coiled spring 26 is adapted to counteract an operating rod or cable 24 anchored to the stud 2 l, and is indirectly connected thereto as indicated at 25 (Fig. 6) and is conneced at its other end 21 to the top of the disc 22 whereby upon a pull of the rod 24, the spring will be wound about the stud. The spring will return the disc 22 to its normal position upon releaseoi' the rod 24. The
rod 24 may extend through any one of four holes 28 in the casing located ninety degrees apart. Thus the rod can be extended through the casing from any one of four directions or from all four of the directions at one time depending upon the number of remote control stations it is desired to have.

A mechanical operating mechanism for an electrical device comprising a disc device havin a casing for positioning of sockets for an electrical device thereon adapted to be operated and removed therefrom, a rod connected to said device and adapted to be pulled to effect its operation, said device comprising a casing with openings through which rods can be extended, a disc pivoted within the casing for rotation through ninety degrees as the rod is pulled, and means for fastening the rods to the disc, said electrical device having a part adapted to be pulled, means for connecting the part with a disc of the device, and a spring connected to the disc of said device for returning said disc to its inoperative position when it has been released after having effected the operation of the electrical device, said connecting means between the electrical device and the disc comprising a pulley element mounted on the disc and adapted to be 6 operated by the same, whereby to pull the electrical device part to an operative position, the said electrical device part being in the form of a flexible pull element and adapted to be wrapped about the pulley, said spring being of the flat coil type and mounted on the side of the disc opposite to the side of the disc on which the pulley element is mounted, said electrical device being mounted on the casing of one of 10 the disc operating devices.
