COMBINED BOTTLE HOLDER AND HEATER Filed Nov. 22, 1946 5/ Elma/M300 v 32 45204 19. A6016 Patented July 27, 1948 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,445,930 COMBINED BOTTLE HOLDER AND EEATEE Valerian Albert Arens, Portland, Mich.
Application November 22,
1 Claim. (Cl. 219-19) This invention relates to a baby bottle holder in which there is incorporated a heating device for warming the milk at times while the bottle is suspended over the crib or carriage upon a support adjustable to adapt the bottle to the babys mouth.
In my pending application Serial No. 678,303, filed June 21, 1946, I have described a baby bottle holder suitable for retaining a baby bottle over a crib or carriage. This bottle holder includes vertically extending parts forming a cage for containing the bottle against displacement therefrom while being handled by the baby within the carriage or crib.
It is an object of the present invention to provide in a baby bottle holder of this type, an electric heating device adapted to be carried by the holder and connected by a cord with a socket in the wall to receive electric current and wherein there is provided a switch device upon the holder to, at the will of the mother, cause the current to flow to the heating device upon the holder.
It is another object Of the present invention to provide a heating arrangement for a baby bottle holder which is symmetrically arranged at opposite sides of the holder and between vertically extending members forming a part of the cage which retains the bottle and at the same time to provide heating with the use of the bottle and which will allow the bottle to have the same adaptability as before upon its support extending laterally from the one side toward the interior of the carriage or crib and into the proximity of the babys mouth.
It is another object of the invention to provide a heating arrangement which is of simple construction, easy to install, and efficient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure l is an elevational view of the cage with a bottle supported therein and the cage connected with a bracket plate and showing one of the heater device channels supported intermediate two corner cage members.
Figure 2 is a transverse cross sectional view taken through the supporting cage, the heating devices, and the bottle within the cage and as viewed on line 2-2 of Figure 1 and looking in the direction of the arrows thereof.
Figure 3 is a wiring diagram for the heating element and showing a switch included in the devices which will not interfere 1946, Serial No. 711,565
circuit to control the operation of the heating element.
Referring now to the figures, It] represents the bottle holder which is connected to a bracket ll of a supporting device not shown but preferably of the type as shown in my pending application. Within this bottle holder 10 is a bottle l2 having a top neck l3 with a nipple l4 thereon. This bottle holder includes a bottom piece l5 to which vertically extending corne members [6 are attached. Within the bottom I5 is a vertically adjustable screw ll having a top plate l8 thereon, upon which the bottom of the bottle I2 is rested. As the adjusting screw 11 is screwed upwardly the bottom of the bottle is moved up thereby carrying the top of the bottle against a cross looking wire arrangement IS. The cross wires l9 each have their ends extended through one of the corner links 29 carried upon the top ends of the vertically extending tubular members l6, these links extendin removably down into the latter members. The cross bar arrangement I9 is thus vertically removable by lifting links 20 out of the tubular members It to permit the insertion of a bottle into the holder.
In order to adapt my present heating arrangement to the holder there is provided upon each two sides of the bottle vertically spaced straps 2| and 22. These straps are connected to the vertically extending members [6 by loop formati ons 23 on opposite ends of the same. There is one pair of these straps 2| and 22 on each of the two diametrically opposite sides. These straps are curved inwardly so that their intermediate portions extend outwardly sufficiently to receive thereunder a tube of insulating material such as porcelain and as indicated at 24. This tube will extend vertically and is connected to the vertically spaced straps 2| and 22 by screws 25. The porcelain tube 24 is thus retained in a vertically extended position and has a heater element 21* mounted therein. Each of the heating elements 21 in the respective tubes has a wire 28 connected to its lower end and leading to a snap switch 29. Current is delivered to the snap switch 29 through a cord 3! which makes connection with a wall socket by means of a plug 32. If the holder is being used adjacent a wall socket the ordinary current supply from the house can be utilized. However, a 100-vo1t heavy duty battery may be used to supply the current, when the child is in a carriage outdoors, and thus a source of electricity which is portable be taken along with the carriage. In such instance the source of power may be that of a battery which can be 3 carried in the carriage. The heating elements 21 are connected in series with one another and this connection is effected through a wire 33 at the top of the bottle holder.
It will thus be apparent that there has been provided a heating arrangement adapted for use with a portable bottle holder which takes up little space and which can be added to the bottle holder with little additional expense.
Having now described my invention, I claim:
In a combined bottle holder and heater, comprising four corner posts secured together to form a frame, means supported upon the lower ends of said corner posts for supporting a bottle between the posts, and heating means associated with said posts for heating the bottle when in position between the latter, the features which include a bracket secured to the two rear posts, a pair of side straps secured to each rear post and the forward post on the same side therewith and terminating at the front posts to provide a clear front opening beween the latter, a tubular member within the straps disposed intermediate and parallel with the front and rear posts upon each side of the frame and containing the heating means, the
corner posts being upwardly-open tubes, a group of corner links having depending portions extending removably down into the upper open ends of said tubes and having loops above the latter, and a bottle-retaining cross-wire having the ends thereof engaging the loops of the corner links associated with the front and rear posts upon each side of said frame, said corner links and associated cross-wires being vertically r movable from said corner posts to release safd bottle from between said posts.
