Referringto the catalyst-containing head H" shown in Fig. 16-, the -metalliccup or holder I30 is so-shaped as to provideaahollow base *rIiI haveing arbottom with an opening I32 and :aflared portion I33. The lower extremity of flared portion I33 is narrower than the diameter of base I3I and is of such diameter as to accommodate the tip of a cigarette. Resting on the bottom of base I3l within the hollow thereof is a fibre or other heat insulated ring I40. Seated on ring I40 is a washer I35 made of ceraminous material. Washer I35 is cut out at its bottom to accommodate ring I40 and is also cut out at its top to accommodate a like fibre ring I 35. The opening in washer I 35 is so shaped and designed as to receive the screens I20, PM and catalyst I06 therebetween, screen I20 being seated on a. flange I31 of washer I35 and screen I2I being seated on a cut-out portion of washer I35. Above screen I2I is disposed a retainer ring I38 retaining the screen and catalyst assembly within the opening of washer I35. The retainer ring I38, which is usually of metal, is spaced from the wall of cup or holder I30 and as there are no metallic parts in contact with the latter the heat from the catalyst, when in operation, will not be transferred to holder I30.
