Claims. 1 This invention relates to improvements in stocking and leg protectors.
An object of the invention is to provide an improved form of stocking and leg protector for use in inclement weather.
Another object of the invention is to provide improved stocking and leg protectors adapted to be secured about the legs to protect the same in wet or rainy weather, said protectors being conformable to the shape of the legs and having zipper closure means at the front portions thereof.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved form of stocking and leg protector construction having elastic adjusting means for adjusting the same to the shape of a leg, together with zipper closure means for said protector, and a drain flap secured to the lower rear end of the protector to be worn either inside or outside depending upon the inclemency of the weather, whereby rain water will be directed below the top of a rubber overshoe or the shoe as it runs down the protector.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved stocking and leg protector which will be highly efficient in operation, and relativelyinexpensive to manufacture and produce.
Other objects will appear as the description proceeds.
In the accompanying. drawings which form a Pa t of this application:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a leg showing the improved 'stocklng and leg protector. positioned thereon:
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the improved stocking and leg protector showing the zipper the drain flap in lowered Figure 3 is a front elevation of the stocking and leg protector shown in open position with the drain flap folded up, and the drain flap being indicated in dotted lines as when used in lowered position, and
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Figure 3.
Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification and the accompanying drawings to designate corresponding Darts.
In carrying out the invention, there is provided an improved stocking and leg protector generally designated by the reference numeral I, being formed of two portions 2 and I, being connected together by the seam l at the rear of the pro- 2 tector, said seam having a back or rear seam cover I suitably disposed thereoven The protector I is shaped to conform to the shape or curvature of a leg 8 and is reinforced by the top and bottom bindings 'I and 8, respectively.
An arcuate drain flap 9 is sewed to the central rear bottom edge of the protector'l and is adapted to beturned upwardly within the protector, as shown in Figured, when it is not raining, but the drain flap 8 will be turned or extended downwardly below the protector I when it is raining, to lead and drain the rain water from the protector I below the tops of the shoes or 'overshoes, thereby preventing water from wetting the wearers feet.
Strips of elastic tape III will be sewed lengthwise oi' the opposite front vertical edges of the protector I with a fullness of material II of the protector being sewed to the opposite sides of the elastic tape, as clearly illustrated. in Figure 4 of the drawings.
A tape concealing strip I 2 will be secured between the fullness of a protector material II and the elastic tape III at each side of the protector I for concealing the tape from showing through, in
the event that transparent material is used in making the protector I. Reinforcing bindings I3 and 2|] will be sewed to the opposite vertical edges of theelastic tapes I 0 and to the portions 2 and 3, while a double thickness protection flap It will be sewed to one zipper element supporting strip I5 at one vertical edge of the protector I, said zipper including the usual toothed elements I6 and the fastening clamp I! with handle I8. It will be understood that the protection flap I4 will underlie the zipper fasteners when closed to prevent dampness and water from entering the protectors I at their front portions.
The stocking and leg protectors I may be decorated or ornamented as at I 9 in any desired manner, and due to the provision of the fullness of the material at each edge of the front portion of said protectors, the protectors will be form fitting to various sizes and shapes of legs.
As before mentioned, the drain flaps 9 may be worn either in folded up or in turned down position, depending upon the weather conditions. The protectors may be opened all the way, or they may be closed at their upper ends if desired.
While the preferred embodiment of the instant invention has been illustrated and described, it will be understood that it is not intended to limit the scope of the invention thereto, as many minor changes in detail of construction may be resorted leg encircling body of waterproof material shaped to conform to the configuration of a leg, reinforcing bindings about the top and bottom of said body, cooperating zipper fastener elements disposed along the edges of said body between the top and bottom thereof, a double thick protector strip secured to one edge of said body adapted to underlie the adjacent zipper elements when connected together, and elastic tape secured tothe opposite edges of said body for shaping the leg protector when placed abouta leg.
2. A stocking and leg protector comprising a leg encircling body of waterproof material shaped to conform to the configuration of a leg. reinforcing bindings about the top and bottom of said body, cooperating zipper fastener elements disposed along the edges of said body between the top and bottom thereof, a double thick protector strip secured to one edge of said body adapted to underlie the adjacent zipper elements when connected together. elastic tape secured to the opposite edges of said body for shaping the leg protector when placed about a leg, vertically extending areas of fullness of said body material so disposed inwardly of the edges of said body overlying said elastic strips. and lines of stitchings extending through said areas and elastic strips.
3. A stocking and leg protector comprising a leg encircling body of waterproof material shaped to conform to the configuration of a leg, reinforcing bindings about the top and bottom of said body. cooperating zipper v\fastener elements disposed along the edges of said body between the top and bottom thereof, a double thickness protector strip secured to one edge of said body adapted to underlie the adjacent zipper elements when connected together, elastic tape secured to the opposite edges of said body for shaping the leg protector when placed about a leg, and elastic concealing strips of the same width as said areas of fullness disposed between said elastic strips and said areas.
4. The subject matter as claimed in claim 1, and a drain flap secured to the lower end of said protector body.
5. The subject matter as claimed in claim 1, and an arcuate drain flap attached to the lower end of said protector body being foldable upwardly to lie within the confines of said body when not in use and adapted to be turned downwardly to extend below said body in case of inclement weather.
