1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to a collar attachment and has for its primary object to hold the tips of a shirt collar in proper position upon the wear- Another object is to contribute to the neat appearance of the shirt collar and enable it to offer resistance to wrinkling and curling.
Among its features my invention embodies a substantially V-shaped socket adapted to be slipped over the pointed tip of a collar, a clasp carried by the socket and adapted to be moved into collar gripping position, and means to hold the clasp in such position.
Other features include a slot in the back side of the socket into which the clasp enters when in collar gripping position so as to lie wholly within the planes thereof and teeth on the clasp for engaging the collar when the clasp is in gripping position.
Referring to the drawing,
Figure 1 is a front view in elevation of a collar attachment embodying the features of this invention;
Figure 2 is a side view of Figure 7 Figure 3 is a rear view of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 3 showing the clasp in open position;
Figure 5 is a top plan view of the clasp illustrated in Figure 1 on a greatly enlarged scale;
Figure 6 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view taken substantially along the line 6 6 of Figure 3; and
Figure '7 is a view illustrating a pair of collar attachments in place on the points of an ordinary shirt collar.
Referring to the drawings in detail, my collar attachment designated generally I comprises a triangular front wall I I and a triangular rear wall I2 which are held in spaced parallel position by converging side walls I3 so as to form a substantially V-shaped socket which is open at its upper end, opposite the apex. The front wall I I may be decorated in any suitable manner as by the character I4. Formed in the back wall I2 is a transversely extending slot I of relatively wide dimensions in which the clasp to be more fully hereinafter described is operable.
Hinged, as at I6 along the bottom edge of the slot I`5 is a clasp I1 which is of a thickness substantially equal to the thickness of the wall I2 and carries at its free edge angularly extending spaced groups of teeth I8 which project angularly from the body of the clasp so that when the clasp is closed the teeth will engage in the fabric of the shirt collar to which the device is attached. In order to hold the clasp in closed position, a lever I9 is pivoted as at 20 to the rear side of the back wall I2 in such a position as to.be able to partially overlie the slot I5 as illustrated in Figures 3 and 6.
In use, it will be understood that the points of a collar C on a shirt S are entered into the open wider ends of the collar attachments Ill. As each collar tip is projected into its respective socket with the clasp I'l in open position as illustrated in Figure 4, it is only necessary to swing the clasp I1 about its pivot I5 so as to cause the teeth I8 to enter the fabric of the collar from the rear side and then to swing the lever I9 about its pivot 20 to lock the clasp in closed position. It is to be noted that when the clasp is in closed position the body portion thereof lies wholly within the planes of the rear wall I2 and the only protruding part is the lever or latch member I9. By thus applying these attachments to the collar points it is obvious sufficient weight will be applied to the points to hold them in proper position and avoid wrinkling and curling of the collar. Obviously when the shirt is to be laundered, the lever or latch I9 may be swung into the position shown in Figure 4 so as to permit the clasp l1 to be opened, and the device removed.
While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention it is to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
I claim:
A collar attachment comprising a substantially V-shaped socket adapted to receive the pointed end of a collar, one wall of the socket having a slot therein, a, clasp hinged to the socket adjacent one edge of the slot and adapted when in closed position to be wholly within the plane of the slotted wall of the socket, teeth on the edge of the clasp opposite the hinge for engaging the collar to which the device is attached and a latch lever pivoted to the slotted wall of the socket adjacent the edge of the slot opposite that adjacent which the clasp is hinged and adapted when in one position to overlie the toothed edge of the clasp to lock the clasp in collar-engaging position.
