Description

April 27, 1948.
a. w. PIPER GAME POINTER AND SCORER Filed April 10, 1947 INVENTOR form/e0 m PIPER ZTToEn/Ev senting North, E representing East; S representing South and W representing West. Disc I is providedwith concentric circles 40 and 4| and within the concentric area 42 is the word dealer under each of the four pyramidal pointers 38.
The reverse face of Figure 1 is illustrated in Figure 5, and it has imprinted thereon the scoring rules. The face 43 is divided into five se ments of 50 each, and five segments of 22 each, The face is provided with a plurality of concentric circles, the circle 44 being spaced from the peripheral edge of the disc. In the concentric area 45 is the word Penalties, and following around in a clockwise direction is area 46 titled Over-tricks, area 41 titled Slams, area 48 titled Honors, area 49 titled Rubbers, and area 50 titled Trick-scores. Under each one of the titled areas is an orderly arrangement of sub-titles and numerals so that players may determine their scores.
In the operation of the indicator and scorer and by way of example:
North deals, a bid of 4 No-Trump is made, Not Vulnerable and Not Doubled or Redoubled. The pointer NT on the disc I3 is turned to the numeral 4 on the scoring range 29 Not Vulnerable. The N on the small disc I5 is turned until the N is in alignment Withthe NT on disc l3. When the dials are set as enumerated, it can be seen at a glance that North deals, the bid is 4 No-Trump not Vulnerable, was not Doubled or Redoubled.
East deals, a bid of 5 Hearts is made, Vulnerable and Doubled. The rise I3 is rotated until the Heart in one of the pyramidal pointers 32 is in line with the numeral 5 in one of the segmental areas 26 in the Vulnerable range on the disc H. The pointer disc I5 is then rotated until the pyramidal pointer East is in line with Doubled under Hearts on the disc [3. When the dials are set as enumerated, it can be seen at a glance that East deals, the bid is 5' Hearts, Vulnerable and Doubled.
South deals, 2. bid of Little Slam in Spades made, Not-Vulnerable and Redoubled. Disc I3 is rotated until the Spade in one of the pyramidal pointers 32 is in line with L. S. in the area 29 Not-Vulnerable on disc H. The small disc I5 is then rotated until the pyramidal pointer S is under Redoubled under Spades on disc l3. When the dials are set as enumerated it can be seen at a glance that South deals, the bid is Little Slam in Spades, Redoubled and Not- Vulnerable.
West deals, a bid of 3 Clubs, Vulnerable and not Doubled or Redoubled is made. Disc I3 is rotated until the Club in one of the pyramidal pointers 32 is in line with the numeral 3 in one of the segmental areas 26 in the Vulnerable range on the disc II. The disc I5 is then rotated until the pyramidal pointer W is directly under Clubs on disc I3. When the dials are set as enumerated, it can be seen at a glance that West deals, the bid is 3 Clubs, Vulnerable, not Doubled or Redoubled.
From the foregoing description when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, it can be seen that I have provided a device that is simple in operation, yet positive when properly set to indicate what has been bid, and I desire to have it understood that the showing is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made within the scope of the claims hereto appended.
What is claimed is: I
1. In a bridge-playing accessory, a base disc, a five-pointed disc rotatably mounted on said base disc, and a four-pointed disc rotatably mounted over said five-pointed disc, each of said discs having sectional markings, whereby the points on the five-pointed disc, representing the five suits, cooperate with the sectorial markings on said base disc to indicate the bid whether the bidder is vulnerable or not, and the points on the four-pointed disc, representing the four players, cooperate with the sectorial markings on said five-pointed disc to indicate the dealer whether the bidder was doubled, redoubled or not-doubled.
2. A bridge-playing aid, comprising a base disc, having an arcuate scale of points approximately 72 in length, a five-pointed disc pivoted thereon, said five points marked in sectors for the four units and for no trump, and cooperating with said arcuate scale to indicate the bid in accordance with the point which is set on the scale and its position thereon, to show whether the bidder is vulnerable or not, and a fourpointed disc rotatable on the same pivot over said five-pointed disc, said four points being marked N, E. S, and W for the four players, and cooperable with ,the sectors of said five points to indicate the dealer and Whether the bidder was doubled, redoubled or not doubled.
3. The combination of a first disc having an arcuate scale extendin approximately one fifth of a circumference, a second disc concentrically mounted for rotation therewith and being marked oil into five sectors, each sector having indicia spaced annulariy thereon and a point extending therefrom to cooperate with said arcuate scale, and a third disc similarly mounted over said second disc and having four points extending from its periphery for cooperation with said indicia. I
4. The combination defined in claim 3, wherein said arcuate scale is marked off in points of bid for a bidder who is vulnerable and for one not vulnerable, and the five sectors are marked for the four difierent suits and for no trump, each sectors indicia being for doubled, redoubled and not doubled, whereby the position of one of the five points on the arcuate scale will show the bid, the vulnerability of the bidder, and the suit in which the bid was made.
5. The combination defined in claim 4, wherein the four points of said third disc are marked for the four players, whereby the location of one of these four points on the bidders sector will show who the dealer was, and position of said point within said sector will show whether the bidder was doubled, redoubled or not doubled.
6. The combination defined in claim 5, wherein said four points are marked N, E, S, W.
'7. The combination defined in claim 6, wherein said five points are marked by a spade, a heart, a diamond, a club, and N. T. respectively.
