UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARRISON F. DAMMON, OF NEW BEDFORD, MASSACHUSETTS.
COMBINED BOW-GUIDE AND ROSlN-HOLDER FOR VIOLINS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 243,763, dated July 5, 1881.
Application filed April 18, 1881.
To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRISON F. DAMMON, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Bedford, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bow-Guides and Rosin- Holders Combined for Violins and Violas, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in bow-guides and rosin-holders combined for violins and Violas; and the object of my invention is to provide a neat light guide and rosinholder combined, so that when attached to a violin or viola it will confine the bowin the desired position while playing and prevent it from either sliding toward the bridge or down the neck of the instrument while in the act of playing, and at the same time hold a piece of rosin at the lower part of the guide, so that rosin can be obtained while in the act of playing, where by the old way of taking the rosin in the fingers the performer would be obliged to stop playing in order to obtain rosin for the bow. I attain this object by the device illustrated in the drawing, in which is seen aview in perspective of the device properly adjusted to a section of a violin.
(No model.)
The guide B and rosin-holder O are attached toa clip which is adjusted to the violin A. The guide B and the rosin-holder 0 attached be- 0 ing then adjusted as shown, thedevice is ready for use.
The guide may be used without the rosinholder by simply taking it off, or the rosinholder may be used without the guide by leav- 5 ing ofi' the upright rods of the guide.
I am aware of the patent granted to H.Barenther, October 23, 1877, No. 196,325; also of patent granted T. H. Hathaway, April 21, 1874, No. 149,928. I claim no part of either of their 40 inventions.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The bow-guide B and rosin-holder 0, com bined and arranged as described, and adapted 4 5 for attachment to a violin or similar instrument, substantially as set forth.
HARRISON F. DAMM ON.
