GOLF CLUB CQVER Filled May 24,, 1945 INVENTORQ 502036 flarwm iazaralzz' relatively large portion for snugly Patented June 17, 1947 UNITED STATES PATENT MOFFICE GOLF CLUB COVER Goldie Frances Lauretti, Carlisle, Pa. Application May 24, 1945, Serial No. 595,570 2 Claims. (01. 150-52) This invention relates to a golf club cover. More particularly, the invention is concerned a sack-like cover for the wooden head of a golf club for preventing knicking and chipping of the head.
While it is appreciated that covers for the heads of golf clubs have heretofore been provided, such were not of a character to form-fit the wooden heads which is essential to properly protect the same while at the same time providing for easy packing or transportation of the clubs.
A primary object of the invention is the provision of a sack-like cover for form-fitting the wooden heads of golf clubs to prevent damage thereto,
A further and more specific object of the invention is the provision of a sack-like cover having a club adjacent the head thereof and with the neck portion at an obtuse angle to the body portion for conformity with the contour of the club.
A still further object of the invention is a novel method of forming a golf club cover of the above noted character.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein- Figure l is a plan view of a blank of material.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of a blank or material which cooperates with the blank of Fig. 1 in the provision of one face of the cover.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of a blank which provides the other face of the Fig. 4 is a plan view of one face of material cover.
The cover, as is clearly shown in Figs. 5 and 7,
' than the blanks i0 and comprises a relatively large body portion for snugly receiving the wooden head of the golf club G it will be seen that I I are counterparts and identical opening as indicated in Fig. 5.
The blank I0 is provided with edges Ell and I0 in obtuse angular relation and the blank II is similarly provided with the edges I I a and II.
In the formation of the cover, slide fastener tapes H are stitched as at I5 along the confronting edges I0. I0 and Il li and one line of stitching preferably is extended to stitch the tongue Ii to the edge It adjacent the free end thereof.
Since the fastener tapes which carry the metallic fastener members are relatively stiii, the blanks It and Ii will assume the form indicated and curved edges of the blank 52, as indicated at E9 in Fig. 6.
It is to be observed that the blank I2 is longer II and when stitched to described,
The cover is preferably provided with a tongue or flap I8 to underlie the fastener such is preferably secured in the lines of stitching I5.
The cover is preferably provided with a soft lining comprising sections 20, 2| and 22, respectively, positioned within the blanks I0, I I and I2.
The lining sections 20 and II are preferably stitched while securing the fastener tapes ll by the lines of stitching ii. The opposed edges of lining sections 20 and 22 are connected by the stitching i8 which may be provided with the bag in inside-out condition.
The cover is preferably provided with a loop member 23 for finger engagement to facilitate withdrawal of the cover from the golf head, and a binding strip 24 is preferably provided at the open neck end of the cover.
From the above it will be appreciated that the form-fit is provided by the specific contour of the blanks and particularly the blanks i and H, and variation in the finished form of the cover may readily be obtained by altering the angular relation of the blank edges ii, "I", II and H".
While I have disclosed the invention in accordanoe with a single specific embodiment thereof, such is to be considered as illustrative only, and not restrictive, the scope of the invention being defined in the sub] oined claims.
What I claim and desire to States Letters Patent is:
1. A cover for golf clubs comprising a relatively large body portion and a restricted substantially tubular neck portion extending therefrom and in obtuse angular relation thereto, the cover comprising opposed faces respectively formed from a single blank of material and a pair of blanks of material, the blanks all being stitched together at the juncture of the opposed faces, the pair of blanks having spaced opposed edges providing an opening extending from the free end of the neck portion to a point adjacent the free end of the body portion, fastener tapes secured to said opposed edges and having cooperating fasteners for releasably closing the opening and said opposed edges of the pair of blanks being formed with opposed reentrant angles, which angles, when the opening is closed by the cooperating fasteners.
secure by United provide the angular relationship between tin; neck and body portions of the cover.
2. A cover for golf clubs comprising a relatively large body portion and a restricted substantially tubular neck portion extending irom the body portion in obtuse angular relation thereto, the cover comprising opposed faces respectively formed from a single blank of material and a pair of blanks of material, the blanks all being secured together at the juncture of the opposed faces, the single blank being of substantially greater length than the pair of blanks, the pair of blanks having spaced opposed edges providing an opening extending from the free end of the neck portion to a point slightly spaced from the juncture of the opposed faces, fastener tapes secured to said opposed edges and having cooperating fasteners for releasably closing the opening, one of said pair of blanks having a tongue disposed between said juncture of the opposed faces and the adjacent end of the opening, and a pull loop secured in the juncture in alinement with said tongue.
