3 Claims. (Cl. 206-16) This invention relates to improvements in razor blade magazines. This application is a division of application Serial No. 417,978, filed November 6, 1941, which became Patent Number 2,399,692 on September 21, 1943.
An object of my invention is to provide an improved magazine for double-edged razor blades providing for automatic positioning of the blades and for feeding the blades within a razor, and for retaining the blades in a central position within the magazine so that the cutting edges are out of contact with the magazine walls.
Another object of my invention is to provide a magazine for double-edged razor blades of simple construction having means for spreading the head of a razor.
Another object of my invention is to provide a magazine in which blades can be safely stored and fed from the magazine singly.
For a fuller understanding of the nature and objects of my invention, reference is had to the following detailed description in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a magazine, showing a razor partly within the magazine and a blade being ejected from the razor and anothe blade being injected simultaneously.

Referring to Figs. 1 to 6, inclusive, numeral I08 represents a magazine for double-edged razor blades comprising a bottom I09, two sides H0I 1 0,afront III and back H2. At the upper portion of magazine I08 there is a pair of longitudinal openings H3 open at the front end and shaped member I2 I i into razorhead 50.
2 closed by back I I2 at the back end. The back I I2 runs to the top of longitudinal openings H3. Front III has a horizontal opening H4 for the deposit of used razor blades. Within magazine I 08 there is an inner member I I5 fashioned of one piece of material comprising a platform H6, two opposed similar sides In, bent downwardly at right angles at point H8. Attached to the central portion of platform H6 there is a spring member H9 containing notches I20 at each end of said spring member. At the front end of platform Hlithere is bent upwardly a U-shaped member I2I, the upper ends of which terminate in an oblique angle as shown at I22. At the back end of platform H0 there is a similar U-shaped member I23 bent upwardly, the ends of which terminate in an oblique angle as shown at I24. U-shaped member I23 is slightly higher than U- Inner member H5 is made to fit snugly within magazine I08 as best shown in Figs. 2 and 3 and is inserted so that the bottom of sides H'I rest upon the inner bottom I09 of magazine I08 and the upper ends I22 of U- shaped member I2l are slightly below the bottom end of inner Walls I25 of longitudinal openings H3 of magazine I08, while the upper ends I24 of U-shaped member I23 are slightly above the bottom end of inner walls I25 of longitudinal openings H3 of magazine I08.
In using magazine I08, a. stack of blades like blade 60 is placed upon spring member H9, depressing spring member H9 so that the notches I03 rest within U-shaped members I2I and I23 and the uppermost blade presses against the bottom of the inner walls I25 of longitudinal openings H3 with its notches I03 resting within U- shaped member I23. Metal ridge 62 of the bottom blade 60 rests within notches I20 of spring member H9 thus centralizing the blade Within magazine I08. Notches I03 of blade 00 fit around the U-shaped members I2l and I23 thus aiding in positioning the blade exactly along the longitudinal medial line of magazine I08.
The razor shown in Fig. 1 is inverted as shown in Fig. 1 so that ridge c2 of the blade within the razorhead 50 abuts ridge 62 of the uppermost blade within magazine I08. The razor is then moved into longitudinal openings H3 so that guards 52-52 enter within longitudinal openings H3; The uppermost blade Within magazine I08 ejects the blade within razorhead 50 while the uppermost blade within magazine I08 is injected When the razorhead 50 reaches the back wall H2 of magazine I08 the blade formerly within razorhead 50 is completely ejected from the razorhead while the uppermost blade within the magazine I03 is completely injected within the razorhead 50. The used blade 60 which has been'ejected can then be dropped into horizontal opening H4 for used blades and the below the blade just withdrawn within razorhead 50 is moved upward by spring member II9 so that it is in position for injecting within the razorhead 50, as above described. The ridges 62 of blades 69 rest one upon another in a stack of blades permitting a uniform space between blades, the U-shaped. member I23 holding the blades I of the stack in perfect alignment; The space betweenthe blades created by the ridges 62 'permitsfor easier operation.
, Referring to Figs. 8 to '13, inclusive, numeral I26 represents a modified magazine] forblades comprising a bottom I2'I, sides I28, front I29 and back I30. At the upper portion of sides I28 there are longitudinal openings I3I. In the front I29 there is a horizontal opening I32 for the deposit of used razor blades. Longitudinal openings are formed from sides I28, tops I33-I33 and inner sides I34-I34. Inner member I35 comprises a platform I36 having two equal sides I3! bent downwardly at right angles at I38. At the central portion of platform I36 there is attached a spring member I39, bent upwardly and having notches I40 at each end. At the, front end of inner member I35, 2. short strip MI is bent upwardly at right angles, the upper end I42 of which is cut at an oblique angle. At the rear end of inner'member I35 there is also a short strip I43, bent upwardly at right angles on the central line of platform I36. The upper end I44 is cut 'at an oblique angle, strip I43 being slightly lQnger than strip I41. The inner member shown in Figs. 12, 13, and 14 is made to fit snugly, within magazine I26 so that the bottom of sides I3! rest upon the bottom I2! of the magazine I26. The short strip I 4I is slightly lower than the bottom ofthe inner sides I34 of longitudinal openings I3I;
In using magazine I26, a stack of blades such as blade 64, is placed upon spring member I 39 and depressed, the upper blade resting against the-bottom of the inner side I34 of the longitudinal opening I3I, short strip I43 resting within notches I 9! of blade 64 so thattheblade 64 is aligned with the longitudinal medial line of magazine I26. 6
The razor is inverted with handle 14 upwards withthe short edge of blade 64 abutting the short edge of the uppermost blade within the magazine I26. Razorhead 63 is then moved inwardly so that guards 6'I-of the razor slide within openingsI3I of the magazine. The uppermost blade within magazine I26 ejects blade 64 Within the razorhead 63, said uppermost blade within the magazine enters razorhead 63so that when the razorhead completely enters-the magazine stopping against back wall I30, the uppermost blade within the magazine is completely within the razorhead 63. The opposed gripping spring members I3 grip. the uppermost blade with a greater tensionthan that exerted by spring member I39 ofthermagazine so that the uppermost blade can be withdrawn. The ejected blade may then be dropped, within horizontal opening I32 for used blades. 1
Itis obvious that various changes and modifications may be made in the various details of construction without departing from the general spirit of my invention, as set forth in the appending claims. I claim:
1. In a magazine for razor blades of the character described, comprising a bottom, a pair of opposed sides, a back which acts as a stop, a front and a pair of longitudinal channels along thetop adjacent said sides and open at the front to receive the guards of a double edged razor, an inner member in the bottom of said magazine having opposed sides bent downwardly forming an inner compartment for used blades and a pair of front and back blade guides bent upwardly parallel to each other, said front uides having inwardly sloping tops adjacent the open ends of said channels, an opening leading into said compartment, spring means within said magazine for maintaining a stack of blades under upward pressure whereby the uppermost blade will enter the razor head upon insertion of said razor head into said magazine.
2. In combination, an inner member with a razor blade magazine, said inner member comprising a one-piece platform forming an upper chamber for .new blades andlower chamber for used blades in said magazine, the opposed sides of said inner member bent downwardly at right angles to said platform, a pair of frontand back blade guides bent upwardly, in parallel relation within said magazine, said guides having tapering tops; a spring member attached to said'platform for maintaining an upward pressure. upon razor blades within said magazine, V I
3. In a magazine for razor blades of the character described, comprising a bottom, a pair of opposed sides, a back which acts as a stop, a front and a pair of longitudinal channels along the top adjacent said sides and open at the front to receive the guards of a-double edged razor, an inner member adapted to fit within the bottom of said magazine, said member comprising a onepiece platform having opposed sides bent downwardly at right angles to said platform and a pair of front and back blade guides bent upwardly in parallel relation, one pair of said guides having tops adjacent the open ends of said channels and sloping upwardly and inwardly to permit the razor guards to enter the magazine more easily, one of said walls of said magazine having an opening leading into achamber in the bottom of said magazine created by the downwardly bent opposed sides of said inner member for disposing used blades, a spring member attached to the upper side of said platform for maintaining an upward pressure upon blades in said magazine whereby the uppermost blade will enter the razor guards upon insertion of said razor guards into said magazine.
