Application November s, 1945, serialNo. 626,463
(c1. 20etsl Claims.
This invention relates to an improved form of display package for tapes having separable slide fasteners mounted thereon. Heretofore, packages for this purpose have tended either to inadequately display the fastener, or, to secure a greater display of the article, have required unnecessarily large amounts of Cellophane or other transparent sheet material, which, besides increasing the cost, has not withstood the wear and tear of normal handling in a desirable manner. Other difficulties have involved inconveniences in making sales.
It is an object of this invention to provide a package which will afford adequate display of the fastener, is economical to manufacture, and which lends itself to greater ease in handling and selling. The invention will be better understood from the following description and the accompanying drawing, which represent a preferred embodiment of the invention, and in which:
Fig. 1 is a front view of a folded package containing a fastener;
Fig. 2 is a back view of the same;
Fig. 3 is a back view of the unfolded package; and
Fig. 4 is an enlarged sectional view 4-4 of Fig. 3.
The package essentially comprises an elongated front panel l and two elongated rear panels along line 2 and 3, each of which is a folded lateral exten- 30 sion of the front panel and adapted to form an envelope with said front panel. In order to form the envelope, panel 3 is provided with extensions 4, 5 for insertion in slits 6, 'l of the panel 2. A bottom flap 8 aids in retaining the fastener tape 9. Top flap IU is scored or weakened as shown by the line ll to provide an easily detachable tab on which sales data may be written. Preferably such data is written on the reinforcing strip I2, so that when the tab is folded back and held in place by the panel s, as shown in Fig. 2, the data is legible from the rear of the envelope, as well as from the front. The tab l0 may be provided with a hole i3 for filing purposes. When the article is sold, the tab is torn off and kept as a record of the sale.
Panel 2 has a pair of adjacent, parallel slots I4, l5 extending laterally across it through which passes the tape 9, being held in place by the bridge I6 formed by said slots. a point adjacent one end of the slotted panel, through the slots and underneath the bridge, to the other end of the panel where it is folded back upon itself. A transparent sheet member Il, such The tape extends from 2 that of the slotted panel, is laid over a portion of the tape and suitably secured to the tape and the panel, as by means of a staple i8. As shown, the member il extends from the bridge IE to the end of the tape on the inner surface of' the panel.
The front panel is provided with an elongated aperture i9 Yin such a position as to function as. a window for the envelope in exposing to View the portion of the ,tape covered by the trans-- parent member I'i. Only the tape will be visible.` through the aperture, the staple i3 having been. placed out of view. It` will be observed that the package, when fold-- ed into an envelope, provides a compact `con-v tainer for the fastener, and that al1 sides of the envelope are sealed off against dust and dirt.. The fastener tape is suitably and adequately` exposed to inspection, `using but a small amountv of transparent material, and the necessity for handling such material is avoided.
In the light of the foregoing description, the: following is claimed:
f1. In a display package for tapes having separable slide fasteners mounted thereon comprising an elongated front panel and two elongated overlapping rear panels each of which is a folded lateral extension of the-front panel, and wherein said rear panels form an envelope with the front; panel; the improvement comprising a rear panel having a pair of adjacent parallel slots extending laterally across the panel; a tape in said envelope extending through said slots; a transparent sheet member adapted to cover a portion of said tape between said slots and the end of the slotted rear panel; means securing said member and said tape to the inner surface of said slotted rear panel; said front panel having an elongated aperture adapted to function as a window for the envelope in exposing to view the portion of the tape covered by said sheet member, said front panel having data written upon one end of its outer surface; and a tab on said last-mentioned end adapted to fold back and to be held in place by one of said rear panels, said tab having data written thereon corresponding to the aforementioned data.
2. In a display package for tapes having separable slide fasteners mounted thereon comprising an elongated front panel and two elongated overlapping rear panels each of which is a folded lateral extension of the front panel, and wherein said rear panels form an envelope with the front panel; the improvement comprising a rear panel as a piece of Cellophane of a length intermediate having a pair of adjacent parallel slots extend-- 3 ing laterally across the panel; a tape in said envelope extending through said slots; a transparent sheet member adapted to cover a portion of said tape, means securing said member and said tape to the inner surface of the slotted rear panel; said front panel having an elongated apouter surface; and a tab on said last-mentioned.
end adapted to fold back and to be held in place in said envelope, said tab having data written thereon corresponding to the aforementioned data..
3. In a display package for tapes having separable slide fasteners mounted thereon comprising an elongated front panel and two elongated overlapping rear panels each of which is a folded lateral extension of the. front panel, and wherein said rear panels form` an envelope with the front panel; the improvement comprising a rear panel having a pair of adjacent parallel slots extending laterally across the panel; a tape in said envelope extending through said slots; a transparent sheet member adapted to cover a portion of said tape between said slots and the end of the slotted rear panel; means securing said member and said tape to the inner surface of said slotted rear panel; said front panel having an elongated aperture adapted to `function as a Window for the envelope in exposing to view the portion of the tape covered by saidsheet member.
4. In a display package for tapes having separable slide fasteners mounted thereon comprising anelongated front panel and two-elongated overlapping rear panelsk each of which is a folded lateralextension of the front panel, and wherein said rear panels form an envelope with the front panel; the improvement comprising a rear panel having a pair of adjacent parallel slots extending laterally across the panel; a tape in said envelope extending through said slots; a transparent sheet member adapted to cover a portion of said tape,
meansV securing said member and said tape to the inner suriace oi the slotted rear panel ;y said front panel having an elongated aperture adapted to function as a window for the envelope in exposing to view the portion of the tape covered by said sheet member.
5 In a display package for tapes having separabl'e slide fasteners mounted thereon comprising an elongated front panel and two elongated overlapping rear panels each of which is a folded lateral; extension of the front panel, and wherein said rear panels form an envelope with the front panel; thel improvement comprising a rear` panel having a pair of adjacent parallel slots extending laterally across the panel; a tape in said envelope extending through said slots; aI transparent sheet member of a length interdirediatel that of the slotted rear panel and adapted to eover aY portion of said tape between said slots and the end of the slotted rear panel; means securing said member and said tape to the inner surface of said. slotted panel; said front panel having" an elongated aperture adapted to function asv a window for thel envelope in exposingto View the portion of the tape covered by said sheet member, said: front panel havingL dataV written upon one end of its outer surface; and a tab on said lastmenticneds endl adapted to.A fold. back and to be heldv in place by the other of said rearplrlels, said tab having data Written thereon correspond-V ing to the aforementioned data WILLIAM.
