This invention relates to a shoulder pad and more particularly to a shoulder pad to be used in conjunction with womens coats or dresses or the like.

An object of this invention is to provide a pad that will cover the area between the shoulder blade and shoulder tip, and from the front of the shoulder to the collar bone thus eliminating the hollow usually occurring with the use of the pad now in use at the present time.

Another object of the invention is to provide a pad that is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, can be applied to a garment in an easy and expeditious manner, and is extremely eflicient in use.

With these and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists of the novel details of construction arrangement and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:

Fig. 1 shows an embodiment of the invention in position on the shoulders of the wearer as viewed from the front with parts broken away.

Fig. 2 is the same from the rear, the formation of the pad being shown in dotted lines.

Fig. 3 is an elevational view of the invention.

Fig. 4 is a view of the outer side thereof.

Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line 5-5 of Fig. 3 and,

Fig. 6 is a view showing the invention applied to the inner side of the garment.

Referring more in detail to the drawing the numeral I0, designates generally the pad which comprises the inner and outer coverings I2 and I4 which may be made from any well known ma terial used for this purpose.

It will be noted that the outer edge It of the pad I0, is inwardly curved, and the pad has a long straight edge I8, a short straight edge 20, rounded corners 22, and the inner side which is straight at 24, where it meets the long straight edge I8,-

and inclines downwardly at 26, from its medial point 28, to the short edge 20. The outer edges of the pad are stitched at 30, and then the filling or wadding 32, which provides the pad body is inserted between the coverings I2 and I4. Positioned in the wadding 32, so that its rear edge 38 is interposed between the coverings I2 and I4, and united therewith is the insert 40 which is made of a heavier material than the coverings I2 and I4; only the rear edge 38 of this insert 40 is stitched, the sides 42 and front edge 44 remain free as shown so it will more easily conform to the shape of the wearer's shoulder and

48 and 50 retain the wedding in position in the coverings I2 and I4 and prevent shifting thereof and aid in forming the curved upper surface 36.

It is to be noticed that when it is positioned in the garment the medial point 28 is placed at the seam 46 of the garment A and in this manner the pad will always be properly placed with regard to the garment and the wearers shoulder.

The pad will, due to its construction, fill the hollow usually occurring when the conventional type of pad is used and will more snugly fit the contours of the shoulder blade and thus give a neat and chic appearance to the garment.

It is believed that the construction and advantages of the invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art and that it is to be understood that changes and modifications in the minor details, arrangement and construction of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claim.

Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new and desired to be secured. by Letters Patent is:

A device of the character described, comprising a body having a fiat bottom, a curve outer side, a long edge and a short edge, rounded corners and an inner side having a straight portion where it meets the long edge, and inclines downwardly from the medial point of the side to the short edge, wadding in said body having a flat bottom to conform to the flat bottom of the body, said bottoms adapted to become curved and conform when applied to a garment, and from a downwardly curved upper 3 surface, an insert in said waddlng adjacent the I top thereof, said insert being smaller than said body, and the sides and front edges of said insert being free, but the rear edge closest to the wearers neck being stitched to said body at the rear thereof adjacent the inner side thereof.
