doiflng cylinder for stripping the fibers from the of theiconstruction combinations and arrangements hereinafter eitscription proceeds when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in whichf main cylinder of the cardingmachine and .an
oscillating comb is provided for stripping these fibers from .the dofllng cylinder web which is passed through a mechanismand deposited into a can. This comb oscillates in a set location in the carding mas,
chine-and the doifer cylinder rotates. pastthe comb. The average comb makes about eight sive wear and as these boxes are in the form or a, trumpet, formed into a sliver, and then through'a suitablecoiling thereis execs-1] filled with. oil, a great amount of oil is consumed, the oilleaks out and does damage to the fibers and requires frequent cleaning, and as the wear increases in n the comb box, it creates a vibration in the comb shaft.
of the'eomb and, consequently;
will shortiiri the life of the drive belt..
I This vibration causes an uneven strokev impairs the efliciency of the combin stripping the fibers ofl the This unevenirunning of the.
It is an obiect of this invention toprovide improved means for oscillating a comb shaft in a carding machine wherein a crank is placed on the comb shaft and this is connected by a conconnection of the crank to the' connecting rod is adjustable and also the point of connection of the connecting rod to the wheel is adjustable to vary the stroke of the dofiercombas desired.
It is therefore an objector thisinvention to provide an oscillating mechanism for a doffer comb which will last much longer than the-presnecting rod to a driven wheel andthe point of vide an oscillating mechanism'for a doifer; comb which eliminates the use of a box filled with oiL.
thus saving much oil, eliminating rapidwear of the parts, and providing a simple and efllcient mechanism for accomplishing oscillation of the doiier comb shaft.
Some of the'objects of the invention having been stated, other objects will appear as the deof frames l0 and Figure 2 is an isometric view of the adjustable member mounted on the driving wheel nectable to the connecting rod for oscillation to the dofler comb shaft;
nd conimpartin Figure 3 is an enlarged vertical 'sectioli al view v taken substantially along the line 3-; in Figure 1: e l
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken substantially along the line 4-4 in Figure 1; 1 Figure 5 is a top plan view looking do of Figure 1; 1
Figure 6 is a vertical sectional view taken substantially along the line 6-4 in Figure 1;
Figure? is a top plan view of the lower portion of Figure 5 and showing the same on an ieniarged scale.
Referring more specifically to the drawings, the numerals Ill and l I indicate the'slde of a carding machine which has a doii'ez cylinder I! usually covered by a hood i3 and rotatably mounted on a shaft I 4 and driven in a suitable manner to rotate along with shaft J; This doifer cylinder has a plurality of conventional teeth I5 thereon which remove the fibers from the main cylinder of the carding machine. The carding machine also has a trumpet l8 through which the silver I1 is passed and it is then fpassed between rollers l8 and I9 and up to a .suitable coiling mechanism 253 and deposited into a conventional, can 2|. I
All of this mechanism is conventional as well as a conventional rotary-shaft 23. driven by a suitable V-belt 24 and having a V-pulley 25 thereon on which is mounted a V-belt 26 for driving a comb to be presently described. Qn top II we mount gooseneck mem- 30 which I]. Each i on top bers comprising a horizontal portion is bolted to the top of frames I ll and portion 30 hasan uprising portion 3| and an elevated horizontal portion 32. Each oithe portions 32 has a horizontally disposed hole therethrough in which is mounted the reduced ends 33 and 34 of a comb shaft 35. 35 has a plurality of arms 36 thereon and on the outer end of. same is fixedly secured a doffer comb 31. v
The reduced portion 34 of shaft 35 nearest the observer in Figures 1 and 2 has secured thereon by means of a split bearing 40 a lever 4| having a plurality of holes 42 therein in any one of which rames This comb shaft threaded to receive a bolt 50 to confine that end':.
of the connecting rod on the bolt 48.
The bracket 49 has a pin 52 extending inwards therefrom which is adapted to fit into a =hole:53 in a pulley 54 on which V-belt 28 is mounted. bracket 49 has an arcuate slot55 therein-whos' center is the pin 52 and slidably penetrating thi slot is a bolt 56 which is threadabl secured in a threaded hole 59 in the pulley 54. The pulley 54 is rotatably mounted on a stud bolt 57 thread It is thus seen that coarse adjustment of the, lengthof the'stroke of the dofler comb 31 can, be obtained by placing bolt 45 in any one-Moi l M the holes 42 in lever M while minute adjustment 6 I of the length of stroke canbe accomplished loy -3 0 its pivot pin 52, thus giving the desired length loosening bolt 56, slightly moving bracket 49 on of stroke with one. or two adjustments. l
It'isthus seen that we have'provided means for-oscillating a doifer comb in a carding'fma chine in which a gear box filled with oil iselimi;
nated and where the parts are easily accessible accomplishing the desired result, and eliminating all of the defects of the old style comb box hereto} fore used for imparting oscillatory motion-to the In the drawings and specification therefh'as, been set forth a preferred embodiment of the n vention, and although specific terms areemployed, they are used in a generic and descrip;
tive sense only, and not for purposes oflimita tion, the scope of the invention being definedi the claims. A,
