Description
(ModeL) E.,NARAMORE.
Earth Pill-verizing Harrow.
NO. 240,494. Patented April 19,188.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ELIHU NARAMORE, OF WEST SENECA, NEW YORK.
EARTH-PULVERIZING HARRO W.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 240,494, dated April 19, 1881. Application filed February 7, 1881. (ModeL) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELIHU NARAMORE, of West Seneca, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Earth Pulverizing Harrows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of an earth-pulverizer or harrow, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a plan View. Fig. 2 is a front view, and Figs. 3 and 4 are details of parts of my invention.
A. represents a plank or platform, of any suitable dimensions, to which are secured the parallel hounds B B, and the tongue 0 is pivoted between the front ends of said hounds.
At each end of the platform A, on the under side, is pivoted a clip, F, in which is hung aplank bar, D, the pivots of said bar and clip being at right angles to each other, as shownthat is, the pivot of the clip is vertical, while that of the plank or bar D is horizontal. The
- planks or bars D can, therefore, by means of the pivoted or swiveled clips F, be turned at any angle desired, and are held by means of rods at. These rods are passed downward through holes in the platform A or hounds B,
and through the inner ends of the bars D, which allows the said bars D to tilt or turn on their pivots while maintaining the same angle at which they are set with relation to each .I, which are formed at their lower ends with hubs b b, to receive the ends of a rod or shaft, (1.
On the shaft d is placed a series of segmental cutters, G, with collars or washers ff interposed between their hubs. al cutters are arranged in spiral form, and held by means of one or more rods or keys, 6, placedthrough' grooves in the collars f, and through holes or grooves in the hubs of the cutters, thus making, as it were, one solid roller on the shaft d. The two spirals or scrolls thus formed carry the dirt from both sides of the barrow or pulverizer toward the center, and will work over knolls and in deep dead furrows, cutting the ground fine and uniform.
A suitable seat is to be arranged on the platform A for the driver.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. In an earth-pulverizer, a series of segmental cutters, G G, constructed substantially as shown, and arranged on a shaft spirally with relation to each other, for the purpose of more efiectually breaking up the clods and pulverizin'g the earth.
2. A series of segmental cutters, G G, arranged spirally on two independent shafts hung from two swiveled frames, one overlapping the other, each cutter being separated by collars ff, and keyed by rods 6 c, all as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ELIHU NARAMORE.
