UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE W. TOLEMAN, OF AUGUSTA, KENTUCKY.
IMPROVEMENT IN ROTARY HARROWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 23,962, dated May 10, 1859.
To all whom it may come: n:

TOLEMAN, of the city of Augusta, county of Bracken, and State of Kentucky, have invented an Improved Rotary Harrow; and I do hereby dcclare the following to be a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the an nexed drawing, and to the letters and figures marked thereon, making a part of the same.
The nature of this invention consists of an arrangement of devices, hereinafter described.
The center of the wood frame is made secure by means of the cast plates, which are bolted to the wood frame. (See drawing.) The arms of the frame are bolted to the iron circle No. 1 at each crossing of the same. A castiron shaft, No. 3, is elevated above, having a journal on the lower end, whieh passes through the center of the harrow. To this shaft is attached the draft-rod, made ofrod-iron, which is fastened to the shaft by means of a nut at D, and passing from the draft-rod to the top of the shaft atD is an iron rod, 0, used to regulate the harrow. There is attached to the same shaft and at right angles with the draftrod a rod, B, of iron, to which is fastened'the iron' ball or roller No. 2, which roller or ball rests on the circle-iron No. 1; and passing from this red, to which the roller or ball is attached, there is an iron rod or hook, 4, extending to the draft-rod B to hold the rods B the more securely to their place. otation is produced by means of the roller or ball No.2, resting on the circle-iron 1, causing the teeth of the barrow on that side to sink deeper into 'the ground, thereby meeting with more resistance, and causing it to rotate as the harrow is drawn along.
I do not claim to be the inventor of the ro--
