The front end of the presser plate is pushed downwardly to compress the platen pad more than it is compressed at its rear hinged end and so that the pressure on the paper at the front end of the press is greater lout for a shorter period of time than it is at the other end.
The inking pad 36 as shown in Figs. 10 and 11 comprises a solid thin flat plate 40 of sheet metal or other suitable material on which is superposed a perforated rigid fibre plate 4| of,
-sill: or the like and the frame 31 Which is U- shaped clamps its edges to the plate 40.
The function of this novel vinking pad is important for ilat printing. Ink is 'placed on the outer layer 46 as evenly as possible and permeates it and the soft layer 415 immediately under it. When this inked pad is brought into contact with a stencil A some of the ink will be forced through the openings in the stencil onto the paper B. A :greater part of the ink will be forced through the perforated sheets 43, which diffuses it laterally into the cells formedl in the plate 4I by theperforations 42 therein, backed by the plate 40. 'These perforation's form a plurality of minute reservoirs for holding surplus ink which isV fed back through the sheets 43, 43 and the layers v45, 46 during Vsubsequent impressions so that a large number of impressions may be made with Ione inking.
This simple device is capable of making thousands of copies from a 4stencil with a single'inking of the pad 36. It occupies but little space, and is light and easily transported. `I realized that 'the modiiications in the construction land arrangement of the parts'may be made'within the spirit and scope of the invention and intend no limitations other than those imposed by the following claims.
What is `claimed is:
`1. A lduplicator comprising a `ilat base with upstanding edges forming a well, a presser plate pivotally connected with the base near the rear end of the base, an ink pad secured to the presser plate arranged to fit with clearance between vsaid edges, means for attaching astencil to the presser plate over the ink pad, and 'a removable platen pad arranged'to be placed insaid well.

A-duplicator comprising a at'base with upstanding edges forming a well, a presser plate pivotally `connected with the base vnear the rear end ofthe base, an inkr pad secured to the presser plate arranged to't with clearance vbetween said edges, means for attaching 'a stencilto the presser plate over Vthe ink pad, .said 'presser plate being movable `to and from a position spaced from and approximately parallel with the base, and a removable platen pad arranged to be placed in said well.

A duplicator comprising anat base with upstanding edges forming a well, a presser plate pivotally yconnected 'with the .base near the rear end o'f the base, an ink pad secured'tothe presser plate arranged to fit with clearance between said edges, and means for attaching a stencil to the presser plate over the ink pad, said presser plate being movable into a position spaced from and approximately parallel with the base, a removable resilient platen pad arranged to be placed in said well the thickness of the platen pad being greater than the distance from the bottom of the well to the ink pad when the presser plate is in said approximate parallelism with the base.

Aduplicator comprising a ilat base, a platen pad, a flap pivotally attached to the rear end of the base having a part extending over the rear end of the platen pad, a, presser plate pivotally attached to the ilap intermediate the pivotal attachment of the flap to the base and said extending part of the flap, an ink pad secured to the presser plate and means for attaching a stencil to the presser plate over the ink pad to the flap, and the part of the flap back of said pivotedattachment extending beyond the rear edge of the :presser plate and arranged to be engaged thereby,
5. A duplicator comprising a nat base with upstanding edges forming a well, a flap pivotally attached to the rear end oi the base, a presser platen pivotally attached -to the `ilap in front of the pivotal attachment of the flap to the base, an ink pad secured to the presser plate arranged to t with clearance between said edges and means forattaching a stencil to the presser plate over the ink pad, the part of the flap in front of the pivotal attachment thereof to the base extending over the rear end of the yplaten pad and the part of the vpad back of said pivotal attachment extending beyond the rear edge of the presser plate and arranged to be engaged thereby, said presser plate being movable into a position spaced from and approximately parallel with the base, the outer dimensions ofthe ink pad being less than the inner dimensions of the well, a `removable platen pad arranged to be lplaced in said Well, the'thickness of the platen gpad being greater than the distance from the bottom of the well tothe ink pad when the presser plate is in said approximateparallelism with the base.

A duplicator comprising a'flat base with upstanding edges forming a well, a flap pivotally attached to the rear end of the base, a presser platen pivotally attached to the ap in front of the pivotal attachment of the flap to the Aibase. an ink pad secured to the presser plate arranged to fit Vwith clearance between saidl edges, and
means for attaching a stencil to the presser plate over the ink pad, a removable resilient platen pad arranged tobe placed in said well, the part of the flap i-n front of the pivotal attachment thereof to the base extending over the rear end of the platen pad and the part of the pad back of said pivotal attachment extending beyond the rear edge of the presser plate and arranged to be engaged thereby, said flap having a downwardly extending flange arranged to engage the platen pad and toform a paper guide.
