Description

Patented Aug. 21, 1945 v aasazsv PATENT OFFICE The present invention isdirected to a. foldable music stand, more particularly to a stand adapted for such use which is made ina single unit and which 1.5. readily foldable.
It is: highly desirable to provide stands for '5 mus Qr th l k hi h a e ada t d. to e packed into. a smallvolume and carried from place to place. A considerable number of such devices have been made; inthe past and in a. certain measure have. been satisfactory for the purpose in that they could be collapsed and carried in a relatively small volume. However, such devices were quite complicated in their structure and they involved a great many, metalparts pivoted together and also other parts which are. adapted to betelescoped. Such a structure isquite expensive and considerable manipulation is necessary bothwhen setting up the stand and when taking it apart. It has also been proposed to i provide a music stand having a lesser number i of parts but provided with groove-like elements which allow the several parts of the stand to be secured together through such elements. However, such a stand was quite cumbersome and consisted of a number of separate parts so that it was necessary tomanipulate the several parts to place them in their proper positions.
The present invention is intended and adapted to overcome the. diflicultiesand disadvantages inherent in prior devices of this kind, itbeing among the objects of the present invention to provide a simple structure of a stand adapted for holding music and the like, which may by aisimple' folding be reduced to a small volume and which may then be readily transported.
It is alsoamongthe objects of the present invention to provide a structure consisting of a number of simple parts permanently secured together in such a mannerthat the several parts are alwaysfin their proper position whether the standis operated or folded.
\1 It isstill further among the objects of the present inventionto provide a stand made up principally of sheets 'of relatively stiff material preferably non-metal, with a structure suchthat f when folded, a thin package is provided.
a second vertical 'fiat piece having one of its 1E edges attached to the first piece by hinges, is
adapted to reston oneof its edges, which condstitutesa base co-operating with thepiece. There.
is also provided a flat holder which is hinged to the, top of the firstcpiece and rests in a notch .55

When it is desired to set the stand up, the reverse operations may be conducted. In either case it is a matter of a few seconds to open or fold the stand.
Although I have described the invention setting forth a single embodiment thereof, the in-, vention is not to be limited by the example as be made within the spirit of the invention. For instance, the shapes and outlines of the various parts may be changed at will. The materials of construction may be any which are suitable for the purpose, but a very light fiber board is pre many variations in details of construction may ferred because of convenience in carrying the 7 same. The locking arrangement may be varied to a substantial degree in the shape of the looking elements, the form thereof, and the number and location. These and other changes in details may be'made in the mechanical construction of the new stand within the scope of the invention, which is not to be limited except by the character of the claims appended hereto.
