. ,1 oral-1111., (01. 197 138) I I timeas'a summaryis typed via a sheet'of carbon paper. By means of my attachment, the said summary is held in fixed position subject to rotation line by line while the cheque or other docu: ment is inserted or removed. Upon my summary sheet, the symbols typed upon the cheques or other documents, are duplicated in columnar form. I
A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the character herewithin described which is readily attachable to any make of typewriter and may therefore be sold as an accessory, the item being of conspicuously simple manufacture, positive as to function, and being one which will give long service without any need for attention.
With the above more important objects in view and such other minor objects as may appear as essentially in'the arrangement and construction of parts all as hereinafter more particularly described, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the rear part of a typewriter showin the conventional platen and paper rest plate with my attachment in situ.
Figure 2 is an enlarged sectional elevation illustrating my attachment in situ and also illustrating the manner in which documents are positioned in relation to the attachment when in use.
Figure 3 is a detail illustrating my margin aligning stop as viewed at 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is an illustration of a portion of a sheet of purchase form.
Figure 5 is an illustration of a summary.
In the drawings like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different figures.
respect tothe platen, all the sheetsfwrapped around the platen are loosened simultaneously. Consequently, the withdrawal or'adjustrnent of one ofthem causes movement and misalignment of the others.
By means of my attachment Ihave overcome this difficulty, and proceeding therefore to describe my invention in detail, the same will be seen to consist of a horizontalbar I which is secured at the ends thereof in angle brackets 2 fastened to the front face 3 of a paper rest plate 4 in slightly spaced relationship to the plate as illustrated in Figures 2 and 3. Positioned adjacent the ends of the bar I are forwardly projecting and downwardly inclined arms 5, these arms being rotatably secured to the bar by means of the sleeve portions 6. I
The armsare downwardly spring loaded by virtoe of the springs! associated therewith and the configuration of which is clearly illustrated in Figure 1, the forward ends of the arms being also provided with transverse bearings 8 through the specification proceeds, my invention consists By the use of my'attachment I am able to type which extend horizontal and slidable rods 9 each having at the ends thereof small rollers II].
The rollers I0 bear downwardly against the conventional platen ,or cylinder I I, and in preparation for writing a series of cheques for instance of which it is desired a summary shall be kept, I
first insert a summary sheet I2 covered by a conventional carbonpaper I3 the sensitive surface of which will be in contact with the front surface of the summary. The summary will preferably though not necessarily be inserted over or above the bar I, and after becoming wrapped around now be inserted, such document being preferably introduced beneath the bar I, or in other words between the bar and the front surface of the paper rest plate. The conventional rollers or bails I5 are loosened by actuation of the conventional paper release I6 and the cheque form or the like lined up with respect to the writing point IT. It is to be particularly noted however this context, it will be recognized that when the conventional paper gripping rollers or bails are loosened or moved into spaced relationship with that the cheque form is not gripped by my rollers I0, but is free of same and overlies them as clearly illustrated in the accompanying Figure 2.
From the foregoing, it will be obvious that when a line has been typed upon the cheque form or other document, and a carbon copy thereof duly impressed upon the summary, the said cheque form or the like may readily be released from the machine by loosening the bails l5, which operation, owing to the function of my attachment will not cause movement of the summary. After the cheque form or other document has been removed, the summary can be moved up one or more lines as desired by rotation of the conventional platen lmobs I-8, after which the next chdue form or the like my be typedhpon.
For purposes of orientation, it is to be understood that the elements identified I 9 are the coho ventional paper clamps which moveupon th rod.
20, these devices being springless'fan'afs p'ly provided to hold the edges of sheets of paiiefin wrapping contact with the forward part7 ofatlie platen surface.
In association with my device I. ,a1,so ,provide a margin aligning stop 20"'to facilitat thecohimen or mutual aligmnent of the summary and mary, while the portion 22 performs a similar function -for the overlying sheets and as will be seen, projects into the space 23 between the bar 'I and the rest plate 4.
Since various modifications can be made in my invention as hereinabove described and many apparently widely difierent embodiments of same made within the scope of the claim without departing from such spirit and scope, ,it is intended 'that" all matter .contaified'lin" theaccompanying specification shall be interpreted as illustrative L,. o"nly and not in a limiting sense and I desire only suchiliniitatiqns placed thereon as are specifically ,e prgssuintne accompanying claim. "What I claim as my invention is: The I combination with a conventional type- ...writer platen, paper gripping rollers and a paper t plate, of,a hoijizontal bar secured at the ends slightly spaced relationship, a pair of spaced, foreo'f'to' tlie'fi'o'nt face of said rest plate in dy igrqie ti a d owuwa d ysp ins loa
