The invention is particularly intended for play It is characterized by certain constructions of each shoe. It is proposed that each shoe include an inner sole and a casing for covering the top and sides of said inner sole and including a top casing section engaging over the top of the inner sole and an edge strip casing section secured to the edges-of said top section and engaging beneath the edge portions of said inner sole, a shoe upper is attached to said casing.

A new and novel welting is attached to the said edge strip section and is cemented to the inner sole. A wedge heel with a casing is mounted beneath the shank and heel of the inner sole.

' It is also proposed to provide another welting attached to the bottom edges of the casing of the wedge heel. An outer sole is secured to said weltings.

The shoe and the method for attaching the wedge heel in position, is characterized by providing the shoe with an inner sole It. This inner sole may be a piece of fibrous material. The constructions of the weltings may be modified.

Another object of the invention is the construction of an article as mentioned which is simple and durable and which may be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claimsin which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

The shoe is also provided with a wedge heel 22 of wood or other hard material. This wedge heel is covered by a cloth casing 23 which is'disposed around'the side and partially across the top and bottom faces by adhesive material 24. The welting I1 is secured to the wedge heel 22 by adhesive material 25. Another welting I I is attached to the bottom edge'of said casing 23. This welting ll includes a lining l9 and a. covering sheet 20' secured together by adhesive material 2|. The welting I1 is also secured to the bottom edge of the casing 23 by stitches 28.

An outer sole 29 is secured to the welting l1 and [1' by a line of stitches 30 engaged between the outer edge portions of these parts.

The wedge heel '22 and the shank portion of the shoe are provided with a shank stiffener 3|. This shank stiffener 3| consists of a fiber material portion 32 and a strip of steel 33, secured together by rivets 34. The inner sole III is hollowed out for receiving the shank stiffener 31.

In Fig. 8 apiece of welting is shown constructed in accordance with a modified form. This welting has a lining 35 which has an outer edge portion 36 bent down" and secured' in position by adhesive 21. An outer cover sheet 38 is engaged over the lining l5 and is secured in position by adhesive 38. This welting may be used in place of the welting previously described.

The dominating feature of the invention resides in the construction of the casing II and the way l1. Another feature resides in the construction oi the wedge heel 22 with its covering casing 23 and the way in which this covering casing is attached to the welting 11'. With the construction defined it is a simple matter to secure the outer sole 29 in position merely by using the stitches ll.

In the modified form of the invention disclosed in Fig. 9, the welt construction 01' the shoe has been modified. This welt has a top portion ll] which is a bottom continuation from the edge strip casing section It. This top portion 40 is held in an outwardly extended position by a line of stitches H. The welt also has a welt bottom portion 42 which is located beneath the welt top portion in and which extends inwards beneath the inner sole ID. The welt bottom portion 42 is secured to the bottom face and the inner sole ill by adhesive material 43. A line of stitches ll secures the welt top portion 40 together with the welt bottom portion 42. The outer sole 19' is illustrated as formed from several layers cemented together.

In other respects this form of the invention is similar to the first disclosed form, and identical parts may be recognized by the same numerals.

,While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:

l. A shoe, comprising an inner sole, a casing for covering the top and sides of said inner sole and including a top section engaging over the top of the inner sole and an edge strip section secured to the edges of said top section and engaging beneath the edge portions of said inner sole, a shoe upper attached on said casing, a welting attached to said edge strip section and cemented to said inner sole, a wedge heel with a casing mounted beneath the shank and heel of said inner sole, a welting attached to the bottom edges of said casing 01' said wedge heel, and an outer sole secured to said weltings.

2. A shoe, comprising an inner sale, a casing for covering the top and sides of said inner sole and including a top section engaging over the top of the inner sole and an edge strip section secured to the edges of said top section and engaging beneath the edge portions of said inner sole, 2. shoe upper attached on said casing, a welting attached to said edge strip section and cemented to said innersole, a wedge heel with a casing mounted beneath the shank and heel of said inner sole, a welting attached to the bottom edges of said casing of said wedge heel, and an outer sole secured to said weltings, said weltings comprising lining layers and covering layers cemented together.

A shoe, comprising an inner sole, a casing for covering the top and sides of said inner sole and including a top section engaging over the top of the inner sole and an edge strip section secured to the edges of said top section and engage ing beneath the edge portions of said inner sole, a shoe upper attached on said casing, a welting attached to said edge strip section and cemented to said inner sole, a wedge heel with a casing mounted beneath the shank and heel of said inner sole, 9. welting attached to the bottom edges of said casing 01 said wedge-heel, and an outer sole secured to said weitings, the bottom edge of said shoeupper being engaged between said top section and strip section, and stitches holding these parts together.

A sho'e, comprising an inner sole, a casing for covering the top and sides of said inner sole and including a top section engaging over the top of the inner sole and an edge strip section secured to the edges of said top section and engaging beneath the edge portions of said inner sole, a shoe upper attached on said casing, a welting attached to said edge strip section and cemented to said inner sole, a wedge heel with a casing mounted beneath the shank and heel 01' said inner sole, a welting attached to the bottom edges of said casing of said wedge heel, and an outer sole secured to said weltings, said casing having its edges bent over the top and bottom edge portions of said wedge heel.

A shoe, comprising an inner sole, a casing for covering the top and sides of said inner sole and including a top section engaging over the top of the inner sole and an edge strip section secured to the edges of said top section and engaging beneath the edge portions of said inner sole. a shoe upper attached on saidcasing, a welting attached to said edge strip section and cemented to said inner sole, a wedge heel with a casing mounted beneath the shank and heel of said inner sole, a welting attached to the bottom edges of said casing of said wedge heel, and an outer sole secured to said weltings, said casing having its edges bent over the top and bottom edge portions of said wedge heel, said last-named welting being stitched to the bottom of said casing.

A shoe, comprising an inner sole, a casing for covering the top and sides 01' said inner sole and including a top section engaging over the top of the inner sole and an edge strip section secured to the edges of said top section and engaging beneath the edge portions of said inner sole, a shoe upper attached on said casing, a welting attached to said edge strip section and cemented to said inner sole, a wedge heel with a casing mounted beneath the shank and heel of said inner sole, a welting attached to the bottom edgesof said casing of said wedge heel, an outer sole secured to said weltings, and a shank stiflener for said shoe.

A shoe, comprising an inner sole, a casing for covering the top and sides of said inner sole and including a top section engaging over the top of the inner sole and an edge strip section secured to the edges of said top section and engaging beneath the edge portions of said inner sole, a shoe upper attached on said casing, a welting attached to said edge strip section and cemented to said inner sole, a wedge heel with a casing mounted beneath the shank and heel of said inner sole, a welting attached to the bottom edges of said casing of said wedge heel, an outer sole secured to said weltings, and a shank stiffener for said shoe, mounted between said wedge heel and said inner sole.

A shoe, comprising an inner sole, a casing for covering the top and sides of said inner sole and including a top section engaging over the top of the inner sole and an edge strip section secured to the edges of said top section and engaging beneath the edge portions of said inner sole, a shoe upper attached on said casing, a welting attached to said edge strip section and cemented to said inner sole, a wedge heel with a casing mounted beneath the shank and heel of said inner sole, a welting attached to the bottom edge of said casing of said wedge heel, and an outer sole secured to said weltings, said welting comprising an inner layer having an edge bent upon itself and cemented in position, and a coveringsheet cemented upon said inner layer.

A shoe, comprising an inner sole, a casing for covering the top and sides of said inner sole and including a top section engaging over the ing a. welt top portion, a welt bottom portion at- I and an outer sole attached to said welt and to 10.
