Description

April 17,1945. E. A. 'STRANG TUYERE BLOCK Filed Feb. 19; 1943 jrzde rzZor. .ZZYrZfiZ 152 362 Patented Apr. 17, 1945 TUYEREIBLOCK Earl A. Strang, Waukegan, 111.
Application February 19,1943, Serial No. 476,478
1 Claim.
This invention relates to a tuyre block for a coal stoker.
Among the objects of my invention is to pro vide a' coal stoke-r having a shroud and aeration members for associating the shroud with the fire pit so as to direct air currents to the top layers of the coal in the fire pit for better burning and economy and such other objects, advantages and capabilities as will later more fullyappear and which are inherently possessed by my invention.
' While I have shownin the accompanying drawing a preferred form. of my invention, yet I wish it understood that the same is susceptible of modification and change without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Referring to the drawing, Figure 1 is a sectional view of the fire pit, shroud and tuyre blocks; Figure 2 is an enlarged front elevated 1 view and Figure 3 a perspective view of one of my tuyre blocks.
The embodiment selected to illustrate any invention comprises a burning pit or retort l0, receiving one end of a hollow pipe or tube I I.
A shroud 64 surrounds fire pit 10. A plurality of cast iron blocks 65 serve the double function of attaching the shroud to the fire pit and providing air channels for aerating the top portion of the coal in the fire pit. g c
Each of the blocks 65 has a top portion 66, a downwardly extending rear wall 61 curved outwardly and upwardly at its bottom to form a hook 68, an abbreviated front wall 69, oppositely disposed side walls 10 each having a portion cut inwardly through the front wall 69 to a point forwardly from the rear wall 61 and constitutingspaced recesses II. A transverse groove 12 is out between side walls 10. The blocks are placed contacting each other and with grooves 12 engaging the top edge 13 of fire pit l0 and hooks 68 engage the curved lip 14 of shroud 64;
Air comes up from the bottom of shroud 64 and passes up through channels H to the top layers of the coal in fire pit I0. I
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
I a stoker having a fire pit adapted to hold coal; and a surrounding shroud having a curved lip, a plurality of aeration blOICkS, each of said blocks having a top portion, a downwardly extending rear wall curving outwardly and upwardly at its bottom portion to form a hook, an abbreviated front wall, oppositely disposed side walls each having a portion cut inwardly through the front wall to a point forwardly from the rear wall and constituting spaced recesses and a transverse groove out between the side walls, said I blocks positioned with said grooves engaging the top edge of the fire pit, and said hooks engaging the curved lip of the shroud, so that air coming up from the bottom of the shroud passes through the recesses to the top layers of coal in the fire 30 pit.
