' 1 Claim. (01. 51 29) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in valve grinders and more particularly to a grinder adapted to be powered by vacuum, the' principal object being to provide a valve ginder operated by a vacuum motor such as is at presently employed on automobiles for operating windshield wipers.
An important objectof the present invention is to provide a grinder which is of simple construction and which Willalleviate to a considerable extent the effort mechanics must now expend in the operation of the grinding valves.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of. the following description.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 represents a side elevational view of v the device.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary top plan view.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view through the device. I
Figure 4 is a transverse section taken on the line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary detailed sectional View showing a suction type of contact head.
Figure 6 is a fragmentary detailed sectional view showing one form of valve engaging element. I
Figure 7 is a side elevational view of a valve return spring.
Figure 8 is a side elevational view with a portion in section showing another form-of valve engaging element. I
Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that reference, character A denotes a frame having top and bottom portions 5, 6, a handle interposed receiving a cotter key 23 for securing anyone of the valve head engaging tools 23, 24 or 25 to the shaft l9. It can be seen that the tools 23 and 24 each has a socket and a blade, the blades being so formed as to engage the correspondingly constructed valve heads and each socket has an opening for alignment with the opening 22 to accommodate the cotter key 23.
The valve head engaging tool 25 is in the form of a rubber suction cup 26 for use heads which are smooth.
Numeral 2'! denotes a 'coiled compression spring for returning the Valve from the'seat.
Obviously, when the motor II is connected by with valve a hose 28 to a suction means such as the in- While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
A valve grinder comprising a frame, a handle on the frame, a motor mounted within the frame, a drive shaft driven by the motor, a tool shaft journaled to the frame and gear means between the shafts, and a screw defining a thrust bearing for the tool shaft, said screw being adjustably disposed through a portion 'of the frame to engage the inner end of the tool shaft, said motor being vacuum operative to oscillate the drive shaft.
