ATTACHMENT FOR TORCH BURNING MACHINES Filed May 19, 1945 Inventor Patented Feb. 6, 1945 ATTACHLIENT FOR TORCH BURNING MACHINES Clyde Roy Burton, Brunswick, Maine Application May 19, 1943, Serial'No. 487,660
1 Claim.
The present invention relatesgenerally to new and useful improvements in torch burning machines such as that constituting the subject matter of United States Patent No. 2,040,914, issued on May 19, 1936. v
The primary object of the invention is to provide, in a burning machine of the aforementioned.
character, novel means for, expeditiously andaccurately moving or adjusting themanual tracer inwardly or outwardly on the table when cutting concentric circles without interfering with the forward movement of said tracer.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a torch burning machine attachment of the character described which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, compact, and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention willrbecome ap-- parent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein like characters of reference desis slidable in the cylinder 1, said plunger projecting through the forward end of said cylinder for engagement with the cam 4. Anadjustable plug 9 closes the other end of the cylinder 1. A
coil spring 10 in the cylinder 1 yieldingly urges the plunger 8 against the cam 4.
In use, the plunger 8, under the influence of the coil spring I0, is engageable with either of the flat faces of the cam 4 for yieldingly securing the device in either of its two positions:
With the center pin 3 engaged in the opening in the tracer table and the radius rod, which passes through the tracer wheel of the machine secured in the nut 6, the lever I is'swung through an arc 1 be readily done without interfering in any way with the forward movement of the tracer wheel. Further, the tracer wheel will be shifted inwardly and outwardly to precisely the same position ignate corresponding parts throughout the sevj eral views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of an attachment constructed in accordance with the'present invention.
Figure 2 is a view in side elevation of the device, showing a portion thereof in vertical section.
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view of the device.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a lever I. At one end' the lever l terminates in a flat enlargement or head 2. Fixed in the head 2 to one side of the longitudinal center of the lever I, is a pivot pin 3. The pivot pin 3 extends downwardly from the head 2 and is engageable in the usual opening in the tracer table of the machine for mounting said lever on saidtable for swinging movement.
Swivelly mounted on top of the head 2 to the other side of the longitudinal center of the lever l, is a cam or the like 4 comprising flat faces 5. A nut 6 is fixed on top of the cam 4. The radius rod of the machine is to be secured in the nut 6.
Fixed longitudinally on the lever I adjacent the head 2, is a cylinder 1. A headed plunger 8 each time.
It is believed that the advantages of an attachment constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood and although a preferred embodiment of the device is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is:
A tracer-adjusting attachment for a 'torchburning machine of a type including a table having an opening therein and a tracer operable on the table and having a radius rod for guiding the tracer, said attachment comprising a lever, a pivot pin on one end portion of the lever toone side of the longitudinal center thereof and engageable in the opening of the table for mounting the lever on the table for swingingmovement, a member swivelly mounted on said one end portion of the lever on the other side of the longitudinal center thereof for connection with the radius rod of the tracer, and means for yieldingly securing the lever against rotary movement relative to said member.
