My invention has relation to improvements in boiler cleaners and it consists in the novel features of construction more fully set forth in the specification and pointed out in the claim.
The invention is concerned with an improvement in boiler cleaners for blowing soot and ash from the tubes of water tube boilers, for which purpose it is mounted in the boiler wall and has nozzles for projecting steam over and across the boiler tubes.
My improved construction concerns the direct support of the blower tube by the boiler tubes and the boiler wall, the operating head in turn being supported by the blower tube and the valve housing at the upper end of the steam supply pipe. This manner of supporting the operating head insures correct alinement for proper operation when the boiler is under steam.
Further and other advantages will be better apparent from a detailed description of the invention in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved boiler cleaner mounted in the wall of a boiler, shown in section and the cleaner tube with nozzles broken away;

Referring to the drawings, B represents the wall of a boiler provided with a suitable opening in which is mounted a wall sleeve or housing secured to the wall of the boiler (by welding a or otherwise). A cap 2 is affixed to flange 3 of the wall sleeve by bolts 4 and has its upper portion recessed (Figs. 1 and 2) to receive the cleaner tube 5. The cap 2 is provided with an extension 6 below recess 1 and in this extension are oppositely disposed grooves 8, 8 in which is mounted a slide plate 9 having an arcuate saddle ID on which rests the cleaner tube 5. A threaded lug ll is provided at the end of extension 6 which is traversed by an adjusting screw [2 on which the slide plate 9 rests, said plate having a terminal lug l3 for impingement on the screw l2. An air shield disc |4 is-disposed between cap 2 and wall sleeve and is held over opening 0' of the sleeve by a spring l5.
A mounting bracket H5 is disposed over cleaner tube 5 in spaced relation with the wall sleeve cap 2, said bracket having a bearing portion l1 and a bracket portion I8 the latter terminating in a flange l9 having spaced openings 20, 20 to receive bolts 2|, 2| whereby a casting 22 is connected to the bracket I6. The casting 22 comprises a valve housing 23 and a goose-neck 24 in communication therewith, said goose-neck being connected with the outer end of cleaner tube 5 by a stuffingbox 25.
The bracket I6 is provided with spaced bearings 26, 21 in which is mounted a counter-shaft 23, and has a shelf 29 somewhat below and in front of said bearings said shelf having a vertically disposed opening 30 through which a cam stem 3| operates. A laterally extending lug 32 is also provided in front of bearing 21 and has an opening 33 to receive a pivot pin P- whereby cam trigger 34 is pivotally mounted in operative position above cam stem 3|. It will be observed that a recess 35 is formed entirely around the rear edge of the cylindrical bearing part I! and in the rear face 36 are four tapped holes h. The recess 35 receives a shift yoke 31 which is held in place by a retaining ring 38 secured by screws 39 in the holes h. The yoke 31 has oppositely disposed lugs 4|], 4|] prow'ded with openings 4|, 4| and a stud 42 is held in each opening by opposing nuts 43, 43 with the inner end of the stud contacting the cap 2. Obviously by proper adjustment of the studs 42, 42 the bearing bracket may be adjusted to or from the boiler wall.
The bearing member has a reduced bearing surface 44 on which is rotatably mounted a helical gear wheel 45 which hasa keyway 46 to receive a lug 41 extending laterally from drive collar 48 Fig. 2.
The drive collar is secured to tube 5 by a plurality'of set screws 49 screwed into tapped holes 50 in the collar and a cam ring 5| is disposed over the collar and secured to the gear wheel 45. Thus the gear 45, cam ring 5|, and the drive collar 48 operate as a unit, and, of course, the cleaner tube with them.
The blower tube 5 is carried by the boiler tubes in bearings clamped or Welded onto the tubes. This construction is not shown as it is a wellknown practice in the art. Obviously, much of the weight of the operating head (including gear 45, worm 64 and associated parts) is carried by the valve housing 23 connected to the steam supply pipe. The advantage of this arrangement of parts insures that no strain or load is transfererd to the blower tube when the valve is opened or the tube rotated.
Having described my invention, I claim:
A boiler cleaner comprising in combination a blower tube, a valve housing connected to the blower tube, a mounting bracket carried by the valve housing and having a bearing portion embracing the blower tube, a drive gear mounted on the bearing portion of the bracket, 2. drive collar connecting the gear to the blower tube, and means for actuating the drive gear.
