Description

i' Patented Dec.l 26, 1944 UNITED STATES- PATENT OFFICE ANN EALING PLATFORM Application Gctober 28, 1943, Serial No. 508,006 I i 3 claims.
This invention relates to an annealing platform for supporting coils of wire during annealing. Previous to my invention,- the coils were haphazardly placed on the base of the annealing platform and tiedrwith band wire to prevent their slipping from the platform. Another method of piling the coils is to place one on top of another in a pile, after which they are tied with band wire.' After the coils are piled on the platform, it is moved under the annealing bell. During this movement the coils become dislodged and slide oil? the annealing platform, thus creating a serious safety hazard. I
It is an object of my invention to provide an nealing platformA which is so constructed that the coils of wire will not slip off during movement thereof.
Another object is to provide an annealing platform having a greatlyincreased load capacity.
T hese and'other objects will be more apparent after referring to the following specification and attached drawing, in which: i
Figure 1 is a, plan view of the annealing platl form with coils mounted thereon;
Figure 2 is a sectional view on the line 1III of Figure 1; and
Figure 3 is a fragmentary view similar to Figure 1 showing a modification of the invention.
Referring more particularly to the. drawing,4
the reference numeral 2 indicates the base of the 'annealing platform. Extending upwardly from the center of the base 2 and yfastened thereto is a central support 3 formed by three pipes 4 arranged in a triangle as best'shown in Figure 1.
- If desired, a concave triangular center piece 8 of In operation three piles of'coils are arranged as shown in Figure 1 with that portion of the coils adjacent the central support resting against the pipes l and the outer portion of the coils resting on the rests 8. This causes the coils to slope downwardly toward the central support and prevents slippage of any of the coils from the platform. Since the coils, when placed on the platform, remain in place, the loading time isreduced as much as 150%. .The orderly arrangement of 10 the coils on the platform also greatly increases its loading capacity. For example, in one size of annealing platform the capacity was increased from 3500 lbs. to 7500 lbs. While two embodiments of my invention have been shown and described, it will be apparent thai-l other modifications and adaptations may be made without departing from the scope of the attached claims.
I claim: 1. An annealing platform for coils of wire comprising a base, a. substantially triangular central support, each side of said vsupport being adapted to support a pile of coils, a rim for said base, and
a raised rest on the base adjacent the rim for supporting each of said piles with their bottoms sloping downwardlytoward said support.
2. An annealing platform for coils of wire comprising a base, a central support adapted 'to support a plurality of piles of coils about its periphery, a rim for said base, and a raised rest on the base adjacent the rim for supporting each of said piles with their bottoms sloping downwardly toward said support.
A3. An annealing platform for coils of wire com-
