Description

Y (No Model.)
F. GIRTANNER. Trash Gatherer.
Patented Jam-11,l 188|.
NJ'TERS, PHOTO LTHOGRAPM UNITED STATES PATENT EEICE.
FRITZ GIRTANNER, OF BIG STONE CITY, DAKOTA TERRITORY.
TRASH-GATHERER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 236,574, dated January 11, 1881.
Application med August 31,1880. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRITZ GIRTANNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Big Stone City, in the county of Grant and Territory otl Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trash-Gatherers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures ot' reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l is a side elevation, and Fig. 2 is a front elevation, of a plow embodying' the improvements in my invention. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the slotted standard. Fig. et represents a detail view of my improved gatherer.
This invention relates to the trash-gatherers which are attached to plows, &c.
The invention consists in the peculiar construction hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings hereto annexed the carrying-frame consists of beams A B and the yoke D E F, supporting said beams. G H are blocks carrying the axle-arms, the former rigidly connected to standard E,thelatter adjustable along standard F by a. slot, J, and pin K, and adjusting-rod L, operated by hand-wheel M.
`N is the tongue, made adjustable on the forward end of beam B by a pin and perforated post, R. At its rear end tongue N has an eccentric, I), with rope S, for elevating and lowering the beams A and B.
C is a rack for holding the handle of the eccentric in position, and T is the drivers seat;
Projecting downward from the frame described are the plow-standards Z, carrying the plows WV. To the front o ot' said standards Z are attached my improved gatherers X, the portion d lying fiat against said face and secured by bolts. The upper portion of the gatherer is twisted toward the mold-board side of the plow at a', so as to bring such portion obliquely to the body portion d. It is then turned outward, extending upwardly, then downward, and twisted backward, as shown at I).
By this construction all trash, weeds, 85o., will be thrown forward and covered by the overturned slice.
I am aware that trash-gatherers are not new, and I lay no claim to such, broadly.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
1. The trash-gatherer X, aving its upper portion twisted obliquely to its body portion, then outwardly, down wardl and backwardl y, substantially as shown and described.
2. The plow W, in combination with a trashgatherer fastened to the face ofthe plow-standard and having its upper portion twisted toward the mold-board side of the plow, said upper portion being twisted obliquely to the body portion, which is secured to the forward face of the plow-standard, then outwardly, downwardly, and backward] y, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
- F. GIRTANN ER.
