WALL CLIP Filed Jan. 17, 1941 INVENTOR FRANK 1A Gear-7:4.
M wRmM Patented Dec. 19, 1944 WALL CLIP Frank La Gretta, New York, N. Y., assignor to Conver Steel & Wire 00. Incorporated, a corporation of New York Application January 17, 1941, Serial No. 374,801
3 Claims.
This invention relates to a clip for supporting the base board or boards of a wall construction.
An object of the invention resides in the provision of such a clip of such construction that the clip may be secured to the floor and the base board or boards then secured to it by a simple manual operation in such manner that it will be locked in position.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is an exploded view of the clip;
Figure 2 is a perspective View of the clip assembled with the base boards and with a studding;
Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional view;
Figure 4 is a vertical sectional view; and
Figure 5 is a section on the line 55 of Figure 4.
In the form of the invention illustrated in the drawing, the clip includes a body portion having a base I and an upstanding web 2 out of which is struck a detent 3 for the reception and retention of th studding 4. This web 2 is provided with a pair of flanges 5 when the clip is used in a wall construction, or with one of these flanges when it is used with a furring.
The base I of the clip is provided with openings 6 for the reception of means, such a nails, for securin the clip to the floor, and with a tongue l struck from the base and having an elongated opening 8 therein for the reception of additional securing means.
If during the placing of the base boards the clip is bent upwardly because, for instance, of the unevenness of the floor, the tongue 1 will bend relative to the base I and the three point attachment of the clip to the floor will be undisturbed.
In order that the base boards may be secured and locked to the clip I have provided each flange with a locking element that includes a body portion 9 and flanges it and l l. Th flange H overlaps the adjacent flange 5 and i pivotally and slidably attached thereto by a rivet or the like I I that is carried by the flange 5 and loosely passes through a slot l 2 in the flange I I.
The body portion 9 of the locking element is provided with a struck out detent I3 that, when the locking element is in its locking position will cooperate with the flange H to prevent the looking element from moving inwardly or outwardly.
The upper and lower edges of the body portion 9 of each locking element is bevelled as at l4 to conform with and engage the correspondingly shaped flanges IE on the base boards It.
In assembling the base board on a clip of this construction, the clip having been secured to the floor and the locking element being in somewhat the position shown in dotted lines in Figure 4,
thumb of the operator to the body 9 of the locking element. During the movement of the locking element to its locking position it will slide on the pivot II to adjust itself to the flanges of the base board.
I do not wish to be limited to the precise construction shown in the drawing as changes may be made therein within the scope of the claims.
What I claim is:
1. A clip for a wall baseboard that ha inwardly extending flanges at its top and bottom edges, which includes a base'and a web extending upwardly therefrom, means for securing the base to a floor of a building construction so as to permit the web to move upwardly or downwardly, a locking member pivotally mounted on the web and adapted to swing in the plane of the face of the baseboard to wedge between the upper and lower flanges thereof, and means for preventing the movement of the locking member in angular relation to theaxis of its pivot.
2. A clip for a wall baseboard that has inwardly extending flanges at its top and bottom edges, which includes an upstanding web adapted to be-secured to the floor of a building, a locking member pivotally mounted on the web and adapted to be swun toengage with and wedge between the upper and lower flanges of the wall baseboard, and a detent for securing the locking member to the web and for preventing the portion of the locking member remote from the pivot from having movement in relation to the web when the locking member is in engagement with the upper and lower flanges of the baseboard.
3. A clip for a wall baseboard that has inwardly extendin flanges at its top and bottom edges, which includes an upstanding web adapted to be secured to the floor of a building, a locking member pivotally mounted on the Web and adapted to be swung to engage with and wedge between the upper and lower flange of the wall baseboard, and a detent spaced from the pivot point of the locking member for securing the locking member to the web when the locking member is in engagement with the upper and lower flanges of the baseboard.
