The bracket 51 is so designed that the roller 58 prof jects above and below the operative portionsof theoffsetting rolls 8 and 9. When the attachment is in its operative position the roller 58 is located on the feed side of the machine but in closeproximity to thetwo offsetting rolls. In order to hold the attachment in an uprightposition and against tilting in the direction of the bottom arm I6 of the combined housing and supure 5, is`located outwards of the two offsetting rolls and is carried by a bracket 10 which is re,-
movably secured to the vertically movable head I4.`
When it is desired to provide offsets or jogs in sheet or plate metal work pieces the rattache,
ment Ill is adjusted or manipulated to the desired position on the guide rod 41 and the mae chine is then started by connecting the two offsetting rolls for drive by the electric ,motor 26.
Thereafter the work pieces ,are successively fed past the roller 58 of the attachment I8 and between the two offsetting rolls 8 and 9. During passage of the pieces past the two rolls the latter, in conjunction withthe hold-down roller 69, form the desired offsetsor jogs in the pieces. The offsetting gauge attachment I0 may be removed either vby withdrawing the bolts 60a, for clamping together `the upper and bottom pieces of the bracket `51 ory by loosening the set screws 63 and then sliding the guide rod 41 forwards so as to permit the bracket to be slid rearwards out of engagement therewith. But a single attachment I0 need be employed for the reason that in connection with an offsetting operation the direction of rotation of the offsetting rolls is such that the work piece tends `to swing in the direction of the roller 58.
The herein described metal working machine is highly eilicientin operation due to the spe.- cic design and arrangement of the offsetting gauge attachment Ill and its'mount II. -The mount permits of ready adjustment and removal of the attachment. `The attachment is simple inconstruction and hencemay be produced at a low c'ost.l
