4 Claims.
This invention aims to provide a pair of scissors, so constructed that a finger nail or the like may be out 01f and filed or smoothed readily, and in one operation, if desired. A further object of the invention is to provide a pair of scissors having cutting blades,- one cutting blade being provided with a file surface, and the construction of the device being such that the other blade will constitute a covering for the file surface, when the blades are closed.
Another object is so to construct the ends of the blades as to permit them to be used conveniently I as a cork puller.
Another object of the invention is to supply a pair of manicure scissors so constructed that when their blades are closed together, the ends of the blades will form a cleaner for nails, cuticle and the like.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the present invention appertains.
With the above and other objects in view,-
which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of What is claimed, Without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawing:
Fig, 1 shows one side of a pair of manicure levers I and a pivot .element 2 connecting the levers at their place of crossing. The levers I include blades 3, portions of the adjacent surface of the blades being smoooth, as shown at 4, to form inner cutting edges 5 on the blades. The remainder of the adjacent surfaces of the blades 3 are provided, each, with a file surface I.
In order to promote an understanding of the description, it may be stated that the word adjacen means those surfaces which move in contact or in close relation, as the scissors is opened or closed: whereas, the words inner and outer refer to the movement of the levers l on the pivot element 2. I 7
It is not necessary that both of the adjacent surfaces of the blades of the scissors be file surfaces, as shown at 1. Thus, in Fig. 6,.one of the blades is shown at 300 and has. a smooth adjacent surface lb, replacing the file surface 1. In this form of the invention, when the scissors is closed, the blade having the surface la acts as a cover for the blade having the file surface 1.
As the scissors is opened and closed, the cutting edges 5 sever the nail, and as the nail is severed, the file surfaces operate upon the nail.
It is not necessary, however, that the scissors be used in this Way. The scissors may be opened, after the nail has been cut, and one of the file surfaces I may be used to smooth off the nail. I
Each of the levers l carries at its working end, a semi-conical portion 8, which is flat on its inner side. When the scissors is closed, the said portions cooperate to form a conical nail cleaning and cuticle cleaning tip 9.
In Fig. 5, parts hereinbefore described have been designated by numerals already used, with the suifix b. The tip 9b may be employed to enlarge a hole in a soft object, or to make a hole in a soft object, such as a cork l2, in order that the cork may be withdrawn from the container M in which it is mounted.
During all operations of the scissors the work is facilitated by the usual thumb and finger eyes It, always found at the outer ends of the levers claimed is:
1. A pair of manicure scissors comprising crossed levers and a pivot element connecting the levers at their place of crossing, the levers including blades, a portion of the adjacent, contacting surfaces of the blades being smooth, to form inner cuttng edges on the blades, and the remainder of the adjacent, contacting surfaces of the blades being file surfaces to smooth a nail as it is being severed by the cutting edges, the levers being of such Width that each covers the file surface of the other when the levers are closed together.
2. A pair of manicure scissors comprising crossed levers and a pivot element connecting the levers at their place of crossing, the levers including blades, a portion of the adjacent, contacting surface of one blade being smooth to form an inner cutting edge on that blade, theremainder of said adjacent, contacting surface of said blade being a file surface, the corresponding, contacting, adjacent surface of the other blade being smooth throughout its entire extent and forming an inner cutting edge, the lastspecified blade constituting a cover for the file I a surface, when the blades are closed.

A pair of scissorscomprising crossed levers and a pivot element connecting the levers at their place of crossing, the working end of each lever being provided with a semi-conical portion, the semi-conical portions cooperating, when the levers are closed, to form a pointed, conical, nailcleaning and cuticle-cleaning tip, the outer surfaces of the semi-conical portions being roughened, said portions being insertible into a-cork to engage the cork, and to facilitate the pulling thereof.
