The present invention relates to apparatus for rinsing baby diapers and more particularly to such an apparatus which may be supported in communicating relation with a toilet or the like.

Where baby diapers are washed in the home it is common practice to rinse solid matter therefrom in a toilet. This method of rinsing diapers has obvious disadvantages and is particularly undesirable because of the necessity of flushing the toilet several times during a single rinsing. According to the present invention, an open bottomed container is provided in which a diaper may be supported and rinsed by water sprayed from a nozzle appropriately supported in the lid of a container, the lid being rotatable on the container so that the nozzle may be moved [3-) direct rinsing water onto all parts of a supported diaper.

An object of the present invention is to provide a diaper rinsing device arranged to be supported in communicating relation with a toilet or the like.

Another object of the invention is to provide a diaper rinsing device in which is arranged a diaper supporting rack and which has associated therewith a nozzle for directing rinsing water over all portions of the diaper, the container being arranged to be supported in communicating relation with a toilet or the like.

These and other objects will be apparent from the following specification when taken with the accompanying drawing in which:

Referring particularly to the drawing, the reference character indicates a conventional toilet bowl or the like. Wedged within the toilet respect to the toilet bowl I so long as the open,

Disposed within the container itadjacent the top thereof is a diaper supportingrack 4 which preferably is ring-shaped and is supported in a" substantially horizontal position by a bracket 5 secured to one side of the containerS. The rack t has depending therefrom a plurality of fastening hooks 6 from which a diaper l is supported. The hooks 6 constitute convenient fastenin members for the diaper 1, although it is'con templated that other forms of fasteners may be used for supporting the diaper if it should be de sired. I I

Preferably the container 3'is circular in cross section. On the top of the container 3 is loosely supported a lid 8. As disclosed in Fig. 1, the lid 8 is provided adjacent one side thereof with an opening in which is disposed a bushing or grommet 9, through which projects a nozzle 18..

In the operation of the form of the invention disclosed in Fig. 1, withthe open bottom of the container 3' in; communicating relation with the toilet bowl I and with the lid 8 removed; a diaper I is suspended from thehooks in extended relation so that it assumes generally cylindrical configuration. The circumference of therack 4 should be approximately equal or greater than the length of a diaper so that when a diaper is suspended from the hooks 5, the edges M thereof will not overlap. Diapers are usually used folded, the manner of folding depending on the style of diaper used. Accordingly, the diaper l is disclosed in the drawing as being folded, as it should not be unfolded when supported in the container 3. As shown in the drawing, the water from the nozzle If) not only impinges directly on the outside of the diaper T, but also is deflected from the side walls of the container 3, onto the diaper 1. By using my invention as described, solid matter on soiled diapers is easily and quickly washed down into the toilet bowl I. When a diaper I has been rinsed as described, it is removed from the hooks 6 and washed with soap and water in the usual manner.

Another form of my invention is disclosed in Fig. 2, wherein the container 3, the rack 4, the hooks 6, the lid 8, and the handle l3 are the same as in the form of the invention disclosed in Fig. 1. There is provided, however, a different form of nozzle. In Fig. 2, the nozzle I1 is rigidly. secured to the lid 8 as by solder H3. The portion of the nozzle l1 within the container 3 is provided adjacent the end thereof with a deflecting plate [9, for directing water from thenozzle I1 1aterally against the diaper 1 suspended from the hooks 6. Thus, as the lid 8 is oscillated about its vertical axis, the deflecting plate is will always direct water from the nozzle ll against the outside. surface of the diaper I.

Still another form of the invention is disclosed in Fig. 3, wherein all the parts are the same as disclosed in Figs. 1 and 2, except the nozzle 20, connected by a hose 2| to a source of water under pressure. The nozzle 20 extends loosely through an opening 22 at one side of the lid 8 so that as the lid 8 is oscillated, the direction of the nozzle 20 in spraying water against the diaper 1 may be controlled manually.

In Fig. 4, the container 3 is disclosed as disposed within a pail 23. The pail 23 is of slightly larger diamete'r'than the top of the container 3 and is provided with a stiffening flange 24 around the top periphery thereof which supports the stiffening flange 25 arranged at the top of the container 3. Thus, the lid 8 which is provided with a downwardly depending peripheral flange 26 serves as a lid for both the pail 23 and the container 3, providing the pail 23, the container 3 and lid 8 when in assembled relation, with a finished appearance as disclosed in Fig. 4. The pail 23 may be provided with a suitable handle 21.

The pail 23 not only provides a suitable storage receptacle for the container 3 and lid 8 when not in use, but also provides a convenient receptacle for soiled diapers. The diapers may be deposited within the container 3 while it is stored in the pail 23 and when the container 3' is removed from the pail 23 to place it in use in association with the toilet bowl I, diapers within the container 3 fall through the open bottom thereof into the pail 23.

Instead of employing a complete-pail 23, as disclosed in Fig. 4, there may be provided a short container 23 for receiving only the bottom of the container 3. However, it will be apparent that the container 3 may receive soiled diapers while it is disposed in the container 23 and that when the container 3 is removed from the container 23 for use, diapers within the container 3 will fall into the container 28.

Having thusdescribed my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim is:

1. A device of the character described comprising an open-bottomed container adapted to be supported in communicating relation with a toilet or the like, a diaper supporting rack member arranged within said container in substantially horizontal position, a nozzle for directing a rinsing liquid on a diaper supported from said rack. a movable nozzle supporting member, and means to guide said nozzle supporting member while carrying said nozzle therein for movement in a fixed path whereby a supported diaper and said nozzle may be relatively moved to direct rinsing liquid over the surface of a supported diaper.

2. A device of the character described comprising an open-bottomed container adapted to be supported in communicating relation with a toilet or the like, a ring-shaped diaper supporting rack member arranged within said container in substantially horizontal position, a plurality of fasteners spaced about said rack for supporting a diaper therefrom in extended position, a nozzle for directing rinsing liquid on a diaper supported from said fasteners, a movable nozzle supporting member, and means to guide said nozzle supporting member while carrying said nozzle therein for movement in a fixed path whereby a supported diaper and said nozzle may be relatively moved to direct rinsing liquid over the surface of a supported diaper.

3. A device of the character described comprising an open-bottomed container adapted to be supported in communicating relation with a toilet or the like, a ring-shaped diaper supporting rack supported from one side of said container in substantially horizontal position and being arranged in spaced relation to the side walls of said container, a plurality of fasteners spaced about said rack for supporting a diaper therefrom in extended position, a lid for said container, and a nozzle projecting through one side of said lid for directing rinsing liquid on a diaper supported from said fasteners, said lid being arranged to be rotatable with respect to said container, whereby said nozzle may be moved to direct rinsing liquid over the surface of a supported diaper.

A device of the character described comprising an open-bottomed container, said container having side walls of downwardly converging configuration, whereby the same may be wedged into supporting relation with the upper opening of a toilet or the like, a diaper supporting rack member arranged within said container in substantially horizontal position, a nozzle for directing a rinsing liquid on a diaper supported from said rack, a movable nozzle supporting member, and means to guide said nozzle supporting member While carrying said nozzle therein for movement in a fixed path whereby a supported diaper and said nozzle may be relatively moved to direct rinsing liquid over the surface of a supported diaper.

5. A device of the character described comprising an open-bottomed container adapted to be supported in communicating relation with a toilet or the like, a ring-shaped diaper supporting rack supported from one side of said container in substantially horizontal position and being arranged in spaced relation to the side walls of said container, a plurality of fasteners spaced about said rack for supporting a diaper therefrom in extended position, a lid for said container, said lid being rotatable on the top of said container, and a nozzle supported oiT-center by said lid, whereby as said lid is rotated,

said nozzle directs rinsing liquid over the surface of av supported diaper.
