2 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in deep well pumps and more particularly to a pump of the jet type.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a jet type deep well pump constructed in such a manner as to prevent accumulation of foreign matter in the nozzle, which is the principal fault with the present-day jet pumps.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a sump for jet type pumps into which foreign matter can precipitate and remain over long periods of time without interfering with the let nozzle.
Other objects and advantages'of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following description.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view through the jet portion of the pump.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a cross section on the line 33 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a section on the line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a section on the line 55 of Figure 1.
Figure 6 is a ure 1.
Figure 7 is a section on the line 1-1 of Figure 1.
Figure 8 is a section on the line 8-8 of Figure 1.
Figure 9 is a section on the line 9-9 of Fi ure 1.
Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 denotes a pressure pipe which extends downwardly from the usual pumping apparatus (not shown) to a fitting 6. Numeral 1 denotes an eduction pipe which extends upwardly in substantial parallel relation to the pipe 5 from the upper portion of the fitting 6. In line with the pipe 1 and depending from the fitting 6 is a foot valve 8 and a strainer 9. Adjacent the valve8 and depending from the fitting 6 in line with the pipe 5 is a sump in the form of a pipe section l having a cap II at its lower end, this sump forming part of the present invention.
Numeral l2 denotes the usual flared tube projecting into the eduction pipe I and which has a throat l3 into which liquid is projected from a nozzle I4. This nozzle 14 is threadedly disposed into the upper portion of a substantially narrow wing formation which projects from section on the line 6-6 of Figthe sump l0 depends and the side from which the valve 8 depends. This wing formation I5 has a very narrow entrance slot I6. This slot is elongated to take care of volume but very narrow to .eXclude foreign matter. This slot is the entrance to a canal 11. which gradually constricts but Widens in dimension as is clearly depicted in Figures 4 to 9, inclusive, until the jet nozzle I4 is reached.
It can now be seen, that the main points of the present invention are the sump ID for catching foreign matter that is unable to enter the canal I '1 due to the nearness of the slot i6 and that the said slot. H5 is no wider than the orifice ,in' the jet nozzle I 4' so that if any very small parparting from the spirit and scope of the inventhe partition wall 16 between the side from which tion as claimedhereinafter.
Having described the claimed as new is:
1. A jet unit for jet pump systems comprising a fitting having a pressure line extending tothe upper portion'thereof, a sump underlying the fitting at the pressure pipe, an eduction pipe rising from the fitting, a foot valve on the fitting underlying the eduction pipe,-a jet nozzle underlying the eduction pipe, said valve and eduction pipe'being in communication, and a canal extending from the jet nozzle to the pressure side of the fitting and having its entrance overlying the sump, the pressure entrance of said canal being in the form of an elongated slit, said canal pressure entrancereducing in transverse dimension toward the jet.
Z. A jet unit for jet pump systems comprising a fitting having a pressure line extending to the upper portion thereof, a sump underlying the fitting at the pressure pipe, an eduction pipe rising from the fitting, a foot valve on the fitting underlying the eduction pipe, a jet nozzle underlying the eduction pipe, said valve and eduction pipe being in communication, and a canal ex. tending from the jet nozzle to the pressure side of the fitting and having its entrance overlying the sump, the pressure entrance of said canal being .in the form of an elongated slit, said canal pressure entrance reducing in transverse dimeninvention, what is sion toward'the jet, said entrance slit being substantially narrower than the orifice of'the J'et nozzle, 1
