Y LIGHTING FIXTURE Filed April s, 1942 ,Patented sept. 14, 1943 EIS .RATENI*Grrr-Ce v i LIGHTING IilvxruaE-,lA Davia J. Biuenst. Louis, M6., assigns-r a; DML;

Brite Lighting, Inc., St. Louis, Mo., a corpora-l ton of Missouri This invention relatesto overhead lighting xtures and has for its principal objectto provide a simple and economical fixture that may be quickly and easily fastened in the desired position to a ceiling or other overhead support in which the fixture supporting yscrews or boltsare improperly located. The invention consists in providing the xture with 'a rotatable top section having a slot therein for the fixture supporting screw or bolt, whereby said section may be rotated relative to said fixture to bring said slot in line with an improperly located supporting screw without `changing the position of the fixture on the ceiling. The invention also consists in the v fixture and in the construction, combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed. o.

In the accompanying drawing, which forms part of this specification and wherein like symbols refer to like parts wherever they occur.

Fig. 1 is a vertical sectional view, showing a lighting fixture kembodying my invention secured to a concrete ceiling or other overhead support by an improperly located supporting screw.

Fig. 2 is a fragmentary horizontal section on extending lvertically therethrough. Rotatably mounted in the hole 2 is an inverted cup-shaped mounting section B having an outstanding peripheral base ange 3 that extends beneath the top e wall land serves to sustain the same around said openmg.

The rotary to-p wall section B of the housing A has an elongated diametral slot 4 formed in the top wall thereof adapted to receive a supporting member preferably inthe form of a screw 5 which is threaded in a mounting hole 6y provided therefor in a ceiling or other overhead support C. The overhead support C shown is made of concrete,

the expansion plug 6, a Washer 8 being preferably interposedbetween the head of said screw and the underside of said rotatable top wall section. When the mounting screw 5 is tightened, the housing A is yrigidly clamped at its outer edges to the ceiling, the dished portion I of the top wall of said housing providing space for the upwardly extending body portion of the rotary top wall section B. The side wall of the top wall section B has outstanding bosses 9 pressed therein which overhang' the top wall of the fixture around the opening 2k therein and cooperate with the base ange 3 to retain said section in said opening.

By the arrangement described, when the mounting hole 6 is improperly located in the oeiling,due to inadvertance or necessity, the fixture may be secured to the ceiling in the position desired. by rotating the top wall section B of the housing A in the opening 2 provided therefor in the dished top wall I` of said housing to bring the elongated slot 3 in said section in line with such improperly located hole so-that the mounting screw 5 may be inserted through said slot and threaded into said hole. A s shownin Fig. 3, thediametral or radial :slot d may be brought into register with amounting hole inthe ceiling without changingthe location of the iixture provided said hole is located anywhere in an area bounded by a circle that is concentric with the rotary axis of the rotary. section B and touches the outer end of said slot. l v

What I claim is: f, A 1. A lighting fixture comprising a housing havvring a Wall with an opening extending therethrough, and a mounting member secured to said vwall for freeirotary movement in but non-axial withdrawal lfrom said opening, said mounting member having an elongated slot disposed transverse to the rotary axis thereof adapted to receive which necessitates the use of anexpansion plug a member for` fastening said mounting member to a supporting member therefor.

2. A lighting fixture comprising a downwardly opening housing having a top wall with a circular v*opening* extending verticallyv therethrough, and a mounting mem-ber rotatablyk secured to said top wall for free rotation in said opening and having a diametral slot opening into said housing adapted to receive a member insertable through the bottom of said housing for securing said mounting member to an overhead support.

3. A lighting iixture having a top wall with a central circular opening 'extending vertically therethrough, and an inverted cup-shaped mounting member rotatably mounted in said opening and having portions engaging the top and bottom adapted to receive a member for securing said n mounting member to an overhead support.

4. A lighting fixture having a top wall with a central circular opening extending verticallyy therethrough, and` an invertedtcup-shaped. member havingi a cylindrical body rotatably'mounted-v in saidv opening, an outst'andingbase flange extending beneath said top Wall for supporting the;4

transverse to the rotary axis of said member: andi adapted to receive a screw for securinggsaid.fix-L ture to an overhead support. 'n

I I tofreceive a screw for securing said fixture to an same around said opening vand a slot 'disposed' 5. yA lighting fixture having a dished top wail with acentral circular opening extending vertically therethrough, and an inverted cup-shaped `member rotatably mounted in said opening and rhaving an outstanding :base flange extending beneath said top wallV fior supporting the same around said opening and portions overhanging the :edgeoi, saidopeningz abovgsaditopwall for supporting" saidg memben in said lopening, said member having a diametrai slot therein adapted
