Application November l2, 1941, Serial No. 418,787 3 Claims. (01. 190-43) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in garment cases or carriers in which dresses and other garments can be carried in a manner which will maintain the garments against rumpling and wrinkling.

The principal object of the invention is to provide an elongated bag-like structure which can be folded several times without wrinkling clothes contained therein and which is provided with handles to the end that the bag-like case structed of any desired material, preferably that of waterproofed substance, the same having a front wall 6 and a rear wall 'I. This bag is closed at its upper and lower ends, a rigidifying bar 8 being disposed transversely at the upper end of the bag and at the inside thereof and having a book 9 secured thereto by a pin or the like I 0. Obviously, the hook H of a clothes hanger II can be disposed over the hook 9. At this end of the bag a handle I3 is provided, this being suitably secured to the bar 8.

The bar 8 is rounded off at one side as is a second bar I 4 located two-thirds of the way down the bag and secured to the inside of the back wall 1 by suitable means. Also secured to this bar I4 is an external handle l5 which will oppose the handle I3 when the bag is in the folded position shown in Figure 3.

Numeral l6 denotes an elongated strap, one end of which is secured as at I I to one end of the bar l4, while the other end is provided with a buckle I 8 cooperative with a short strap l9 secured to the other end of the bar l4. The strap I6 is disposed through strap loops 20 on the inside of the front wall 6 and obviously as shown in Figure 2, a garment 2| can be" disposed downwardly from the hanger l2 and between the strap l6 and the bar l4 and by tightening the strap the lower portion of the garment can be prevented from becoming disarranged.

Below the bar l4, the lower third section of the bag 5 can be used for containing shoes and other small items and access can be gained thereto through a slit in the front wall 6 normally closed by a multiple fastener 23.

Above the bar I4, the front wall 6 of the case has an elongated substantially U-shaped and horizontally disposed slit defining an elongated fiap and this U-shaped slit is normally maintained closed by a pair of independently movable multiple fasteners 24 each capable of following its own substantially L-shaped course.

Obviously, the lower third section of the bag may first be folded over the bar I 4 and the remainder of the bag then folded on the line 25 to dispose the lower third section in between the other third sections in pendant position and to bring the handle I5 uppermost opposite the handle l3 for grasping of both handles by one hand. When the bag is thus folded, the lower third section forms an overnight bag partly concealed between the other two third sections and suspended from the bar M. The bar l4, it will be noted, forms a rigid fold forming and suspension member over which the lower third section may be easily and evenly folded without buckling or sagging of portions thereof, or deformation otherwise. As will be understood, the bar 8, when the bag is being carried, serves to prevent deformation of the end of the bag to which it is attached.

While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the scope of the invention as claimed.

Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

1. A garment carrier comprising a foldable bag, a closure at one side of the bag, a garment hanger in one end of the bag, retaining means in the bag for holding garments against rumpling, and handles on the bag whereby the bag can be carried in folded position, said retaining means comprising a rigid bar extending across one side of the bag and provided with a buckle at one end thereof, a row of strap loops in the bag on the other side thereof and opposed to said bar, and a strap fixed to the other end of said bar and extended through said loops for attachment to said buckle.

2. A garment carrier comprising an elongated fiat substantially rectangular bag having closed ends and formed of foldable material, a rigid bar in one end of the bag extending lengthwise along said end and having a carrying handle attached thereto and extending out of said end whereby the bag at said end is prevented from deformation while being carried, a second rigid bar extending across the bag on the inside thereof and attached to one side of the same in a position to divide the bag into a lower section comprising substantially one-third of the bag and another section comprising substantially two-thirds of the bag, said second bar also having a carrying handle attached thereto and extending out of said side of the bag, said lower third section being foldable over said second bar to hang pendent therefrom when the second bar is lifted by said handle thereon, and said other section being foldable around and beneath the lower third section upon opposite sides thereof to partly conceal the same and dispose the handle first mentioned opposite to the handle of the second-mentioned bar for grasping of both handles to carry the folded bag.

A garment carrier comprising an elongated fiat substantially rectangular bag havingclosed ends and formed of foldable material, a rigid bar in one end of the bag extending lengthwise along said end and having a carrying handle attached thereto and extending out of said end whereby the bag at said end is prevented from deformation while being carried, a second rigid bar extending across the bag on the inside thereof and attached to one side of the same in a position to divide the bag into a lower section comprising substantially one-third of the bag and another section. comprising substantially two-thirds of the bag, said second bar also having a carrying handle attached thereto and extending out of said side of the bag, said lower third section being
