DWJMAHARJOIAM Patented Mar. 30, 1943 UNlTED STATES PATENT OFFICE PROPERTY MARKER Edwin A. Markham, Gulfport, Fla. Application October 21, 1940, Serial No. 362,048
2 Claims.
This invention is concerned with the provision of a marker especially adapted for use in connection with real estate listings and has for the primary object the provision of an efficient and iiexpensive device of this character which may be readily set up in a selected place and has means for the accommodation of an information and identification card, giving data relating to the property, as well as means for the accommodation of a key to building or buildings on said property when same is so improved, the device being so constructed as to protect said card and key from the elements, means provided in said structure to permit selected persons to open said device and inspect said card and procure key therein, and indicating means on the outer portion of the cover to inform interested persons the conditions surrounding a possible transaction involving said property and where other information may be procured.
This invention resides substantially in the combination, construction, arrangement, and relative location of parts, all in accordance with the disclosure herein.
In the drawing herein:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a device in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is a similar view with door removed.
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 33 Figure 1.
The true nature and manner of use of a device of this character in accordance with the invention will be best understood by a detailed description of the form thereof shown in the drawing in an illustrative sense.
The device includes an open face box shaped member 2 which may be a casting as shown or other suitable structure, a supporting member 3, which is preferably of angle iron, in fixed engagement with said member 2, as shown in Figure 3, by rivet, brazing, welding, or other suitable means. Formed on the base portion 4 of said member 2 are spaced lugs 5 forming troughs therebetween, and for removable support of an identification or listing card 6 and within the outer edge of base portion 4 are channels I to permit drainage from said troughs, which are sloped downward to said channels, of possible accumulation of moisture from the weather elements, suitably located to a side of said box member 2 is a clip 8 for reception of a key such as indicated by 9.
Suitably hinged to said box member 2 1s a door member ID adapted to close the open face of the member 2 and to be locked therewith, said door having a locking member I l engageable with a locking portion l 2 in said box.
To retard the weather elements from the box member 2 all outer edges of said door member l0 have a lip l0 extended therefrom which, when the door is closed, overlaps onto the box member 2 thereby closing possible space between said door and box member to the weather elements.
Extended through said door member II) are spaced openings M for removable engagement with said door of selected colored indicia members 15 to indicate to interested persons conditions surrounding a possible transaction involving the property upon which the marker is located, for example there are two indicia members in use, as shown in the drawing, one is red and the other yellow, the red may indicate that the property is for sale and the yellow that the owner would consider a trade for other property, it is of course to be understood that the public would be acquainted with the meaning of the various colors of indices through means of various publicity agencies. If a person, after seeing the marker and indices associated therewith, becomes interested, he then proceeds to see the person of his choice as indicated on the outer surface of the cover [0, who will have been supplied with a key to said marker and content thereof. It is obvious that the indices may be of any color or combination of colors, and that one or more may be used.
From the above description it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that the details of construction illustrated herein readily may be varied without departure from the novel subject matter herein disclosed. I do not, therefore, desire to be strictly limited to the disclosure but rather by the claims granted me.
What I claim is:
1. A device of the character described, comprising, an open front box member, spaced, downward and outwardly sloped troughs formed within the inner face of the base portion thereof, and channels in drainage communication with said troughs formed vertically within the edge of said base, and a closure for said box, which engages the free edge of said base.
2. A device of the character described, comprising, an open faced box member, substantial- 1y square in shape with a curved top portion, spaced, downward and outwardly sloped troughs formed within the inner face of the base portion thereof, channels in drainage communication with said troughs and formed vertically therefrom within the edge of said base, and a closure for said box, said closure having a lip formed upon the outer edges thereof adapted to overlap the outer edges of said box.
