2 Claims.
This invention aims to provide a novel means for holding a wrist watch or other portable object on the wrist, novel means being provided whereby the device may be adapted to Watches of different sizes and to wrists of different sizes.
A mechanic who abides by what is claimed may make changes in the precise structure shown, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 shows in top plan, a device constructed in accordance with the invention;
Fig. 2 is an elevation;
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section taken through the connector vertically;
Fig. 4 is a transverse vertical section taken through the connector;
Fig. 5 is a horizontal section taken through the connector;
Fig. 6 is a plan showing a portion of one of the yokes.
The numeral I marks a portable object of any desired sort, for example a wrist watch. As disclosed, but not of necessity, the wrist watch I is provided at its ends with pairs of ears 2, carrying connections 3 and 4, in the form of pins.
The numeral 5 marks a curved, U-shaped yoke, including side arms 6, connected by an end member 1. The ends of the side arms 6 carry transverse sockets 8 dening openings which receive the connector 4, the sockets being in end abutment with the ears 2. Adjacent to the sockets 8, the side arms 6 are joined together by a cross piece 9.
The numeral I0 marks an H-shaped yoke which, like the yoke 5, preferably is made of resilient material, such as metal. The yoke I6 is curved after the manner of the yoke 5. The yoke I0 includes side arms II carrying transverse sockets I2 receiving the connection 3, the openings in the sockets being designated by the reference character I4. Adjacent to the sockets I2, the side arms II are connected by a cross piece i5. At the ends remote from the sockets I2, the side arms I I have outwardly extended fingers I6.
The numeral Il marks a connector, which may be of any desired form. Preferably, however, the connector I1 comprises a box-like body I8, which is open at the top, the word top having reference to the position which the connector occupies in Figs. 2 and 3. In its side walls, the body I8 is supplied with longitudinally spaced openings or seats I9. Adjacent to one end, the bottom of the body I8 is supplied with an upstanding, concaved anchor 20. There are notches 2I in the ends of the body I8. The notches 2I at one end of the body receive side arms 6 of the yoke 5, the end member 1 of the yoke being engaged with the anchor 20. The notches 2I at the oppojoins the inner ends of the lids 23 and 24 together, and connects them to the side walls of the body I8. Each of the lids 23 and. 24 has a depending skirt 26, and the skirts cooperate to surround the side walls of the body I8. In its ends, each of the lids 23 and 24 has notches 21, mating with the notches 2l in the ends of the body I8, to receive side arms 6 of the yoke 5, and to receive the side arms II of the yoke I0.
The yokes 5 and lll are resilient, or at least bendable, but they retain the shape shown in Fig. 2. It is possible to spring the arms 6 or the arms II either inwardly or outwardly, to cause the sockets 8 and I2 to be received between the parts 2 of watches of different dimensions. Before the device is placed on the wrist of the wearer, the lid 24 may be opened, to enable the operator to seat the arms 6 in the notches 2| and to engage the end member 1 with the anchor 26. Before the device is placed on the wrist of the wearer, the lid 23 may be opened, to enable the operator to seat the arms II in the notches 2| and to dispose the fingers I6 in the appropriate seats I9, thereby adapting the device to previously-obtained measurements of the wearers wrist. It will be noted that the connector Il forms a receptacle in which, if desired, small objects may be carried, not only in the interest of portability, but in the interest of secrecy, as well.
The cross piece 1 is spaced from one end of the body I8, and since the ngers I6 are received in a pair of the seats I9, the ngers are spaced from the opposite end of the body. The result is that neither end of the connector I1 will be pulled out of shape.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
1. In a wrist band, a portable object, curved yokes 'assembled with said object, each yoke including side arms, the side arms of one yoke being connected terminally by a cross piece, the
those of the body, one lid exposing the fingers and the other lid exposing the cross piece, when the respective lids are opened.
2. A Wrist band constructed after the manner of vclaim 1, and wherein the cross piece is spaced from the adjacent end of the body, and an upstanding anchor on the body and engaged with the cross piece, to transfer pull to the bottom of the body and prevent pull from being trans- 10 mitted to said adjacent end of the body.
