Description

Oct. 27, 1942. s. LAPICK DETACHABLE COLLARS Filed April 11, 1942 FIG. 2.
INVENTOR. RE LAPICK SALVATO FIG. 3.
BY I fMATTORNEY Patented Qct. 27, 1942 DETACHABLE COLLAR Salvatore Lapick, Lakewood, Ohio,
The Printz-Biederman Company, a
of Ohio assignor to corporation Application April 11, 1942, Serial No. 438,595
4 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in detachable collars .particularly for use with garments worn by women and young ladies.
More particularly, my invention provides for an arrangement for detachably removing a collar, such as a fur collar, so that the garment with the detachable collar removed gives a finished appearance.
A further object of my invention is to provide an easy and simple means for attaching a fur collar to a cloth garment so that the attached fur collar looks as though it were actually permanently attached to the outer grament.
Another object of my invention is to provide simple means for interchanging different collars, such as different fur collars and cloth collars for use upon a cloth coat.
In order to take care of and for different occasions where one type of collar may be more suitable than another, my invention provides for a ready, inexpensive, easy and quick means for interchanging such collars.
Another important object of my invention is to provide a construction where the means for attaching the collar to the body of the garment are concealed when the garment is worn by a person.
These and other advantages will become ap parent from the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Fig. 1 is a perspective View of the upper part of the front of the garment with one end of the collar raised to show the features embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is an inside view of the upper portion of the coat shown in Fig. 1, showing the construction for attaching a collar.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the back of a fur collar showing the means used for attachment to a coat.
Fig. 4 is a section taken through line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing, numeral l represents an outer garment or coat which can be made of any desirable material and used either for children, juniors, misses, womens and mens coats, jackets and suits of almost any type and description. Such outer garment may be lined or unlined depending upon the type of garment and the cost of manufacture. Outer garment H! has attached to the yoke H a short collar l2 by stitching 13. A series of openings l4 are placed at predetermined distances between yoke H and the short collar l2. Such openings 14 may be of any desired number. Below each opening 14 differences in weather and at a predetermined distance from such opening there is attached to the inside of the yoke it one part of a snap fastener IF).
A fur collar l6 has a backing material I! which may be of any desired material stitched to the inside of the fur collar by stitching [8. Tabs I9 are attached to the neck portion of the backing material H by stitching 2!]. The tabs I!) are spaced apart the same distance as openings 14. At the opposite free end of tabs I9, there is aflixed the other half of the fastener 2| which co-acts with fastener part 15.
In order to attach fur collar IE to the garment Ill, tabs 19 are inserted through openings l4 and snap fasteners 2| are snapped together with complementary snap fasteners 15. The fur collar will then be snugly in position without wrinkling so that it appears to be permanently attached to the outer garment II]. It should be noted as shown in Fig. 3, that one-half of the snap fastener 2| appears on tabs [9 with the male portion upward so that when tabs 19 are inserted through tabs M, the back of the tabs [9 do not show the snap fastener. The preferred method of manufacture is to use the same material for tabs 19 as that of the outer garment so that tabs 19 will barely be visible.
Instead of fur collar I6, different types of fur collars may be used or cloth collars of different shapes and designs can be used-by the same means of attachment; that is, by the use of tabs such as H! spaced apart the same distance as openings I4 so that such collars can be interchanged depending upon the desires of the wearer.
It is obvious that various changes and modifications may be made in the details of construc tion without departing from the general spirit of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In combination with an outer garment having a collar permanently attached to the yoke of said garment, openings between said collar and said yoke, one-half of a snap fastener attached below each of said openings with a detachable collar having tabs spaced apart the same distance as said openings, the other complementary half of said snap fastener attached to the free end of said tabs for attaching said collar to said outer garment.
2. An outer garment having a short collar permanently attached to the yoke of said garment, openings between said short collar and said yoke, a detachable collar having tabs attached to the neck portion of said detachable collar, fastening means attached to the free end of said tabs cooperating with complementary fastening means on said yoke for removably securing said detachable collar to said garment.
3. An outer garment having a yoke, a collar permanently attached to said yoke, openings spaced apart between said collar and said yoke, a detachable collar encircling said permanent c01- lar, said detachable collar having tabs attached to the neck portion thereof, said tabs having fastening elements attached to the free ends thereof cooperating with complementary fastening elements attached to said yoke for attaching said detachable collar to said garment.
4. A garment having a yoke and a permanent collar attached to the neck portion of said yoke, small openings between said collar and said yoke, fastening elements attached to said yoke below said openings, a detachable collar for said garment having tabs attached to the inner edge of said detachable collar, said tabs being spaced apart the same distance as said openings and arranged to pass through said openings, complementary fastening elements attached to the ends of said tabs for removably securing said detachable collar by said fastening elements.
