Description

J. P. LA BAR. Hoisting Apparatus.
1 -No.- 229,149. Patented June 22,1880.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE."
JAMES P. LA BAR, OF MILFORD, MICHIGAN.
HOISTI NG APPARATUS.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 229,149, dated June 22, 1880.
Application filed February 26, 1880.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES P. LA BAR, of
Milford, Oakland county, Michigan, have invented an Improvement in Hoisting Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
The nature of this invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in the construction of hoisting apparatus; and the invention consists in the peculiar construction, arrangement, and combinations of the various parts, all as more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional detail.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, A A represent suitable standards, the upper ends of which are secured together by the side bars, B. A
. shaft, O, is journaled in proper bearings upon these bars B, and has rigidly secured to it the two ratchet-wheels D, between which is securedupon the shaft the spur-wheel E.
A forked lever, F, is pivoted tothe shaft outside the ratchet-wheels, and has pivoted to it a pawl, G, which engages with the ratchetwheels D. To one side of this pawl is secured one end of a rod, 0 the opposite end of which is secured to a lever, H, pivoted to the lever F, as shown.
A ratchet or dog, I, is properly secured to the frame B, so as to engage with the ratchetwheels, and has a rod, I), attached to one end chain is secured at one end to one arm of the hooks M, while the opposite end passes through an eye in the end of the other arm, and is provided upon its end with a pin, g, Whichis passed through the link in the chain N, just outside of the eye of the grapplinghook M, through which the chain N passes after the hooks and chain have been adjusted to grasp the object to be raised.
P is a lever pivoted to one of the grapplinghooks near its upper end, and provided with a hook, 0, which is inserted in oneof the links of the chain and operated to take up the slack after the hooks have been adjusted to the weight to be lifted.
If desired, this frame may be mounted upon wheels and advantageously used as a stumppuller or stone-wagon.
What I claim as my invention is 1. The combination, with the grapplinghooks M, of the chain N, having the ping at one end, and the lever I, pivoted to one of the grappling-hooks and provided with the hook 0, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a hoisting apparatus, the frame A B, ratchet-wheels D, spur-Wheel E, lever F, and pawl G, in combination with the dog I, windlass J, and rope K, substantially as and for the purposes described. I
3. In a hoisting apparatus, and in combination with the frame A B thereof, the ratchetwheels D, spur-wheel E, lever F, pawlGr, dog I, Windlass J, rope K, chains L and N, and grappling-hooks M, substantially as and for the purposes set forth and shown.
In testimony that Iclaim the above I hereunto set my hand this 26th January, 1880.
JAMES P. LA BAR.
