1 Claim.
of a suction cleaner I electric cord wrapped about the cleaner.
In that embodiment of the invention shownin the drawing, the cleaner housing Ill is substantially cylindrical, being supported on casters II and having a handle l2 on its upper, surface. The air intake end I! will be designated as the forward end of the cleaner and the exhaust end H as the rearward end. The exhaust end usually carries the electric current cord [5 which conveys current to the motor (not shown) located in the housing near the exhaust end ll.
The handle I! is elongated and parallel with the axis of the housing. It is about half the length of the housing, providing ample gripping area, and is located toward the rearward end of the housing so as to be above the power unit (not shown) which contributes to the weight of the cleaner to a substantial degree.
The handle I2 is straight throughout most of its length, and it is connected to the housing ll at its rearward end by a curved leg l6 and at its forward end by a downwardly and rearwardly inclined leg I! which joins the handle proper by a portion l8. The form of forwardly projecting to facilitate wrapping of the handle is designed 'the cord l5 around the cleaner housing end it and handle leg I! in the manner shown in Fig. 3,
.the rearward inclination of the leg ll of the handle serving to prevent slippage of the cord. Preferably .the leg I! is so designed as to extend at approximately a right angleto the lower surface of the end H! of the cleaner housing on which the cord is wrapped.
Changes maybe made in details of construction without departing from the scope of my invention.
I claim:
A suction cleaner comprising a housing having a cylindrical body portion and a tapered end portion converging toward the axis of said housing,
a caster bracket depending'from said body portionadjacent said end portion and having a caster protecting member inclined downwardly and toward said end portion, a handle for said body portion including a relatively long gripping bar having a leg connecting one end thereof to said body portion adjacent said end portion, a second leg inclined toward said first mentioned leg and connecting the opposite end of said bar to said body portion at a point adjacent the longitudinal center thereof, and an electric cord connected to said cleaner for coiling diagonally around said body portion in which position the coils of said cord are supported by the inclined handle leg and bracket member cooperating with said body pot-- tion to define opposed recesses spaced axially and laterally of said body portion.
