This invention relates to improvements in spinning boxe used in the production of rayon. More particularly the invention relates to im- 1 Claim. (01. 57-76) engaging the outer face of the groove in the 2 cover, in which position the rim portion is lower provements immean'sfor retaining the cover on 1 the spinning box during-the spinning operation.
The invention has for its principal object to provide means for securely retaining the cover on the spinning box which may be easily applied to the box and which permits the cover to be will be apparent from the following description and accompanying drawing.
In the drawing is shown a view with parts in preferred embodiment of the inoi the groove is inclined inwardly and downwardly. The cover is securely retained on the box by a relatively narrow annular ring member than any other part of the ring. During rotation at high speed, centrifugal force presses the bead portion of the ring member into the groove in the box and presses the rim member in a direction downwardly and outwardly against the cover so'that it engages the cover throughout generally indicated by reference character 8.
The ring member comprises the continuous outer bead portion 9 and the inwardly a'nd downwardly extending, continuous rim portion III which is of less thickness than the bead portion. yThe ring member is flexible and resilient and ma be made of rubber or the like.
In securing the cover on the box the ring member is 'placed in the box above the cover with the bead portion fitting in the groove in the inner wall of the box and with the rim portion its areaand securely holdsit on the box and prevents it from vibrating.
The rim portion also provides a means for gripping the ring member with the fingers whereby the ring may be readily removed from the box. Heretofore, in order to remove the retaining ring-it was necessary to use a tool known as a pick which often caused damage to the ring and the box. With applicant's invention this source of damage is eliminated.
While a preferred embodiment of the invention has been shown, it is to be understood that changes and variations may be made without I departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined by the appended claim.
What I claim is: A device for collecting yarn and the like comprising aspinning box having an annular groove formed in its inner wall adjacent its open end, a
cover member having an annular groove in its upper surface adjacent its periphery and a retaining means comprising a relatively narrow annular member of flexible resilient material having a continuous outer head portion fitting in the groove of the inner wall of the spinning box and a continuous rim portion extending inwardly and downwardly into-the groove in the cover member, said rim portion being of less thickness than the bead portion.
