5 claims. (.ol. 12s-213) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a combined container land sipper.

The invention contemplates an article as mentioned which is characterized by a container of any design and construction and oi any material suitable for a container and intended to hold liquids or semi-liquids, and having an interior tubular sipper extending along its height and associated with means for extending said tubular sipper above the top of the container so that the top of the sipper may be engaged by the lips or mouth to sip the contents of the container.

Still further the invention proposes the application Aof a sipper to a medicine bottlein such a manner that one may take ones medicine without resorting to the use of-a spoon.

A further object of this invention proposes the application of a means to the bottom of the bottle and arranged in conjunction with the sipper in such a manner that apredetermined quantity of the medicine within the bottle may be measured 01T to be withdrawn from the sipper.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

The combined container and sipper, according to this invention, is applied to a medicine bottle. The medicine bottle c omprises a container 45 having a relatively thick and solid bottom portion 46 which is formed with a central opening 41 of a capacity equal to one teaspoon or tablespoon full, depending on the design of the medicine bottle. An outer tubular member 48 extends through the neck 115a of the bottle and terminates near the top of the neck. A bushing 49 is threadedly engaged in the top of the neck view taken on the bottle through drawing forming a maand the edge of the cup medicine vis placed -in the 45El and abuts the top of the tube 43. The lower portion of the tube 48 is formed with an inverted enclosed cup shaped portion lllEL which engages around an annular area around the topof the cup shaped opening 41. More specifically, the lower edge of theinverted cup shaped portion I8a engages an annular groove 50 formed in a projecting annular portion of the base wall 46. An lannular washer 5| is mounted in'this groove shaped portion ita engages this vwasher. A sipper extension tube 52 is mounted through the tube 48 and extends downwards to near the bottom end of the opening 41. This tube 52 extends upwards through the `bushing 49 and terminates in a curved end 5.2a adapted to extend along the roof of ones mouth way back into the throat. A seal 53 closes the extended end r'52a -of the tube '52.

The medicine bottle is used as follows. The bottle through the neck portion'45. vThen the

48 and 52 are engaged in -position and the bushing 49 is turned down tightly so -as to seal the liquid within the bottle. The liquid withinthe tube 52 and within the cup shaped portion 48ab and within `the opening -41 is then withdrawn through `the mouthpiece 52a of the interior tube 52. When it is desired to use the medicine the bushing 49 is slightly loosened until the medicine seeps around the bottom edge portions of the cup portion 48gu and fills the opening 41. Then the bushing 49 is turned tight. The medicine may now be sucked out through the mouthpiece 52a.

The purpose of having the mouthpiece 52a curved and large, as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, is that bad tasting medicine may be taken without getting the full impact of the taste.

While we have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of our invention, it is to be understood that we do not limit ourselves to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:

1. A combined container and sipper, comprising a container having an interior tubular sipper extending along its height, and means for extending said tubular sipper above the top of said container, said container having a thick bottom portion formed with an opening to measure off a predetermined quantity of liquid, a tubular member having a cup portion engaged over the termined quantity of liquid. a tubular member having its bottom formed with an enlarged cupshaped portion engaging over the top of said opening, a releasable means for forcing said cup shaped portion against the top face of said bottom wall to prevent liquid from entering said opening except in the released condition of said means, a sipper extending through said tubular member and from the top of said container so that liquid entrapped Within said opening may be withdrawn therefrom, and means for closing the extended end of said sipper.

A combined container and sipper, comprising a container having a reduced neck opening, a thick bottom portion formed on said container and having an opening for measuring a predetermined quantity of liquid, a tubular member having its bottom formed with an enlarged cupshaped portion engaging over the top of said opening, a releasable means for forcing said cupshaped portion against the top face of said bottom Wall to prevent liquid from entering said opening except in the released condition of said means, a sipper extending through said tubular member and from the top of said container so that liquid entrapped within said opening may be Withdrawn therefrom, and means for closing the extended end of said sipper, said tubular member having its top end disposed slightly below the top of said neck opening, said first-mentioned means, comprising a bushing encircling the extended end of said sipper and extended into said neck opening to bear against the top of said tubular member and urge the same downwards, and means for holding said bushing in position.

.means, a sipper extending through said tubular member and from the top of said container so `that liquid entrapped within said opening may be withdrawn therefrom, and means for closing the extended end of said sipper, said tubular member having its top end disposed slightly below the top of said neck opening, said first-mentioned means, comprising a bushing encircling the extended end of said sipper and extended into said neck opening to bear against the top of said tubular member and urge the same down- Wards, and means for holding said bushing in position, comprising threads between the adjacent faces of said bushing and the inside of said neck opening.

5. A combined container and sipper, comprising a container having a reduced neck opening, a thick bottom portion formed on said container and having an opening' for measuring a predetermined quantity of liquid, a tubular member having its bottom formed with an enlarged cupshaped portion engaging over the top of said opening, a releasable means for forcing said cupshaped portion against the top face of said bottom Wall to prevent liquid from entering said opening except in the released condition of Said means, a sipper extending through said tubular member and from the top of said container so that liquid entrapped Within said opening may be Withdrawn therefrom, and means for closing the extended end of said sipper, said latter means, comprising a seal in the form of a cap engaged on the extended end of said sipper.
