To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT E. FRENCH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of XVayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fasteners for Meeting- Rails of Sashes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention', such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or igures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in the class of sash-locks for the meeting-rails of window-sash, and it consists in two plates pivoted together at their center, one of which is stationary, the other made to turn on the central pivot, each provided with an annular iiange 011 its inner face, made to lit one within the other, whereby an inclosed chamber is formed between the plates for the reception of suitable lookin g mechanism, and the movable plate having rigidly Xed to its outer face a bar or bolt whose motion is governed by the plate to which itis joined; also, in certain other details of construction, hereinafter more fully described and shown.

A recess is provided in this iiange, into which fits the end of bolt C when shot forward, as shown in Fig. 5.
G is a projeeting'pin on the side of bar c, to prevent said bar being turned from the outside by the insertion of any instrument between the sash.
My device is operated as follows: It is rmly attached to the top rail of the lower sash of a window by screws through plate A. The disk E is then turned so that the projecting end of bar e is beneath hook K on the bottom rail of ,the upper sash. It is then locked in position by inserting the key through the key-hole p, when the bit or blade of the key occupies the recess o in the side of bolt C. The key is then turned forward, causing the bolt G to slide forward, so that its end passes through the slot in iiange B into recess H of the outer iiange, thus holding disk E firmly in place, so that it cannot turn on pivot a until released by reversing the movement with the key. The projection G on the side of bar e is designed to prevent the bar from being turned from the outside when not locked by inserting the blade of a knife or other similar instrument between the sash and bearing against it.
It is obvious that any instrument inserted between the sash and interposed between the hook K and projection G would be tightly clamped between the two by any lateral pressure upon bar c, and the resistance would increase in proportion to the pressure exerted.
In order to prevent my lock ybeing taken apart, the top of post e may be riveted, instead of uniting the parts by a nut or screwhead, as shownin the drawings.

The plate A, having the recessed flange B, central post, a, and studs F, the sliding' bolt C, arranged within the iauge and between the guide-studs, to be actuated by a key, in combination with the recessed hanged disk E, pivoted to the central post, and provided with the bar e, rigidly attached thereto, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
