BRACELET.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 228,039, dated May 25, 1880.

Application filed February 14, 1880.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, JOHN M. OooKINeHAM, of Hudson, in the county of Columbia and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bracelets; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which I will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which-- Figure .1 is a perspective view of my improved bracelet and key. Fig. 2 is a detail view of the lock and catch. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the bracelet, showing the catch closed; and Fig. 3 is a similar view, showing it disengaged or open.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

My invention relates to that class of bracelets which are locked around the wrist of the wearer'by means of a snap clasp or catch; and it consists in providing that part of the bracelet-band to the end of which the clasp-tongue is affixed with an aperture for the insertion of a pin or key, the point of which may be brought to bear upon and depress said clasp, thus unlocking the bracelet, substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth.

In the drawings,'A is the bracelet, which may be of any desired construction and material, with or without a hinge. The look consists of a spring, B, secured in aframe, b, upon the inside of the bracelet, and provided with a 1ip,-c, at its forward end. (3 is a tongue or catch secured upon the under side of the opposite side of the braceletin a frame, 01, its forward-projecting end being provided with a transverse groove, 6, on its under side.

The band of the bracelet has a perforation or aperture, f, above spring B, and is provided with a key, D, of any ornamental shape, attached permanently to the, bracelet by a chain, E, the point 9 of the key fitting into the aperture f.

The bracelet is'locked or clasped by simply pressing its two parts or ends together, by which the tongue 0 will pass over spring B until its groove 6 receives the lip c of said spring, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings.

When thus locked the tongue 0 cannot possibly become accidentally unlocked or disengaged, but canonly be released by inserting the key into the aperture f and by downward pressure forcing the lip 0 out of groove 0, which unlocks the bracelet.

This lockin g deviceis exceedingly strong and simple in its construction. It is absolutely safe, and the ornamental key, with its chain, adds to the attractive appearance of the article.

Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- 1. A bracelet provided with the aperture or key-holef, curved springB, having lip 0, and tongue or catch (1, having transverse groove 0, substantially as set forth.

2. As an article of manufacture, a bracelet provided with an aperture or key-hole, f, a curved spring, B, located belowsaid key-hole and having a lip, c, at its forward end, a tongue or catch, 0, having transverse groove 6, chain E, and key D, the whole constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and described.
