3 Claims.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in nose plugs particularly for swimmers and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, an appliance of this character which will positively prevent water from entering the nasal passages of the nose.
Another very important object of the invention is to provide an appliance of the aforementioned character embodying novel means for securing the device in position.
Still another important object of the invention is to provide a nose plug of the character described embodying unique means whereby the device may be expeditiously inserted and removed.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a nose plug of the character set forth which will be comparatively simple in construction, highly tured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention the nostrils 2 of the nose 3. The resilient plugs to fit properly with max- It will be noted that the resilient plugs I are substantially hollow. Formed integrally with the plugs I and depending therefrom are stems 4.
laterally projecting integral arms 5 which are engageable with the vomer portions 6 of the nose for securing the plugs I in position.
The plugs I are mounted on a resilient metallic connector which is designated generally by the reference numeral 1. The connector I includes an accurate bar 8 having'substantially U-shaped projections 9 on its ends. It will be observed that the projections 9 diverge. Extending from the projections 9 are undulated legs In which are embedded longitudinally in the stems 4.
It is thought that the manner in which the device functions will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. Briefly, to insert the appliance the resilient plugs I are introduced into the nostrils and the projections 9 of the resilient connection 1 are squeezed together between the thumb and index finger of one hand. Thus, the nibs or securing arms 5 are spread apart to facilitate insertion of the plugs I to the desired position in the nostrils 2. When properly positioned the projections 9 are released and the nibs or arms 5 are engaged by the resilient connector I on the vomer portion 6 of the nose in the manner suggested in Figure 2 of the drawing. The skirt portions of the resilient, conical plugs I engage the walls of the nostrils in a, manner to prevent the passage of Water. Of course, to remove the device the diverging projections 9 of the resilient connector "I are again squeezed together for spreading the nibs 5 in a manner to clear the vomer 6.
It is believed that the many advantages of is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is:
l. A nose appliance of the character described comprising a pair of oonoidal shell plugs engageable in the nostrils, stems integral with the plugs and depending therefrom, means on the stems engageable with the vomer portions of the nostrils for releasably securing the plugs in position therein, and means for connecting the plugs.
2. A nose appliance of the character described comprising a pair of resilient oonoidal shell plugs engageable in the nostrils, stems integral with the plugs and depending therefrom, means on the stems engageable with the vomer portions of the nostrils for releasably securing the plugs in position therein, and means for connecting the plugs, the last named means including a resilient bar, substantially U-shaped projections on the ends of said bar, and legs on said projections embedded in the stems.
3. A nose appliance of the character described comprising a resilient connector including an arcuate bar, substantially U-shaped, diverging projections on the ends of said bar, integral legs on said projections, stems of resilient rubber mounted on said legs, substantially conoidal shell plugs of resilient rubber integral with one end of the stems and insertable in the nostrils, and laterally projecting nibs integral with, the other ends of the stems engageable with the vomer portions of the nostrils for securing the plugs therein.
